OT - Hermann Park breaks ground on new Commons area

I'm trying to figure out how close this new 26 acre section of Hermann Park will be to Rice? Obviously, it's not a new area of Hermann Park - just an area they're completely renovating and updating.
One of the links above says "The Commons will be created in a 26-acre area in the southwest portion of Hermann Park, bordering the Houston Zoo to the east, Cambridge Street to the south, Fannin and Main Streets to the west, and Hermann Park’s Japanese Garden and McGovern Lake on the north / northwest side."

It's basically across Main and Fannin from Allen Center and the Faculty Club. For perspective, that's Autry House and Palmer in the lower right part of the picture.

uh, oh:
George H. Hermann (August 6, 1843 – October 21, 1914) was an entrepreneur based in Houston, Texas. Hermann enlisted with a Confederate Cavalry company and served in that unit through most of the Civil War. He was part of the Confederacy in the American Civil War. He was an early investor in Oilfields around Humble, Texas, which led to a financial windfall from a rich Oil strike.
so....Confederate soldier and rich Oil guy (equals obviously promoting racism and carbon pollution causing global warming, climate change and more mayhem)...wonder how much longer his name can stay on park?

I run there several times a week. That portion of the park is basically grass, some trees, a pavilion, the dirt running trails, and the tracks for the kiddie train.

Nope. They'll just move his statue and keep his money. I wonder where they got that idea?
The statue of George H. Hermann is currently located near the corner of Cambridge and Fannin, across the street from Memorial Hermann Hospital.
Probably should rename the hospital as well.

I think that area has been a playground historically. I have memories of climbing up the rocket in the era of metal playgrounds. To the east of the pavilion....

I have been so focused on my running that I just did not notice anything. I ran over there this morning. In addition to the pavilion, there are several small kiddie playground areas, a few picnic tables, and a "sculpture" that looks like several large blobs of pink feces.
