Signing day today
Rice football isn't going to be announcing an earth-shattering list of new names I don't believe. There are some new grad transfers (and a few JUCO's too, which I think is an indication that Mike Bloomgren knows he's on very shaky ground unless he posts a winning season in 2022). Rice has had a few underclass guys transfer out, but honestly, no one who is that great to begin with (which you can tell by where they are ending up).
One pretty significant conference update from a few days ago is that North Texas is losing the Murphy twins on the DL to the transfer portal. Those guys are both really good. USC has already offered both of them (as has UCLA, Penn State and West Virginia).

I think we've signed all we could sign.. I'm not aware if there's anyone else we were after. I guess we'll know as the day goes on.

Tech is going to sign one of its best classes in history after a three win season and firing their coach. I think it is fair to say, despite the massive amount of criticism we took, firing Skip Holtz was needed to revitalize the program.

In today's coaching world, you're right. If Holtz was producing winning seasons, and by winning I mean 9-10 wins, taking Tech to CCG every season or every other season, I'd say it was foolish. But when you're producing 6-7 wins and then have a bummer of a season, it's time.
I'm a fan of Hall. He took over a badly recruited team and got us 3 wins this year. Made moves.. I'm hoping for at least 5-6 wins this season, and being in the thick of things in year 3. If year 2 & 3 are the same as this season, I'll be ready for new blood.

Losing the Murphy twins hurts pretty bad. As most North Texas fans knew, giving Littrell another year was a horrible idea. Our final season in CUSA looks to be another disappointing one. Doubt we see anything exciting today on the recruiting front.

Think beating UTSA saved his job?

That and finishing on a 5 game winning streak. Hard to fire a guy after that, even though it needed to be done.

RE: Signing day today
Happy to say that not only does UTSA have our best recruiting class so far, but for the first time in our short history, we lead the conference in average rating per recruit at 84.39. Our previous best was 82.67, which was actually last year's class.

LA Tech closed the deal on everyone expected to sign with the Dogs today. We're up to 16 signees now, as usual 247Sports only has about half of them listed.

Are you sure those other five aren't transfers? 247 Sports lists transfers separately, below the initial list of high school recruits. Btw, 11 of 16 is far more than half anyway.

One was Memphis' starting LG Isaac Ellis who is signed and enrolled at Tech. The others are all listed on Rivals.

Ahhh, see what you're saying. Yeah, they are missing a few, aren't they? And you're right, because even though it shows 16 recruits on 247 for LA Tech, it does only show that nine have actually signed, so that is about half. Weird. They seem to be far more up to date with UTSA than they are with you guys.

In LA Tech's case Ben Carlisle at BleedTechBlue https://latech.rivals.com/ is all over Tech recruiting info for Rivals (he doesn't provide their recruit ratings though), but there may be nobody at 247. Other schools have the exact opposite issue.

UTEP focuses on recruiting JUCOs so our recruiting class wont rank highly. However, I like what I have seen so far. And its worked well for UTEP so far.

It worked really well for y'all last year. I think the portal has created a market inefficiency for jucos and UTEP has done a good job exploiting it.
I wonder if the same thing will happen downstream of the covid year(s) for high school players. There had to have been more hidden gems slip through to G5 schools than usual (it's just that the risk now is that the portal giveth and the portal taketh away potentially once they stand out).

I think one of your fans kept saying it would happen after the bowl game.. I kept tryin to tell him that won't happen because picking would be slim.. Like now.. Now would be a horrid time.. That's how we got stuck with Jay Hopson.

We signed 5 transfers. We have a couple scholarships left over that we're saving to see how the transfer portal plays out after spring ball.
Cam Ready-Center. He started all 2 years when he was at Colorado State. HM all conference MWC.
Dre Butler- DT- Saw playing time at Auburn.
Bentley Hanswaw- TE- From BYU, redshirted and went on his missions.
Naasir Watkins- OT- Started two years ago at Kentucky but has been battling knee injuries. Been main backup.
Kobe Singleton- CB- Freshman all American from Southern Utah.

I try to not get my hopes up since the first year for a coach is almost always a challenge but this does give me hope.

Yep, props to Dimel for taking advantage of the JUCO ranks. That is the one thing I will say Dimel does well. Recruiting. Recruiting to El paso can be difficult.
Makes total sense that there is less competition for higher rated JUCos. P5 schools will focus on the Transfer portal and high school players... Gives UTEP a shot as long as we keep winning. Probably any player that shows out at UTEP (like Jacob Cowing) will transfer to a P5.
