That was a statement win. As you said, tough environment, 8,000 fans, loud student section. Payback for last year’s tournament loss.

I’d rather get the payback in Cleveland.

Absolutely! Rollins is slick as frog snot, but Ray J is quite slippery as well. He can dish, fiddle for time, and keep the team under control so they can execute the game plan.

Great addition.

When RayJ has the ball I just feel confident that something good is going to happen. He's quick enough to penetrate and create. He's got a great handle, a cool head, sees what is developing and anticipates where the ball needs to go. All that plus he can play without the ball making space for Rollins, Milner and Shumate to do their thing.

Toledo basketball seems to be a mix (pun intended - as in Steve - giggle) of "Hoosiers " and the Harlem Globetrotters.

What can you say other than a great team win in a hostile environment! They did what they had to do to beat a very good team on the road Excellent on both ends of the court. Ran their motion offense at a high level throughout the game which makes us very hard to defend with the scoring threats and athletes we put out on the floor. Defensively, did a great job on their three-point shooters with Dennis doing a tremendous job taking Sears out of the game. Also liked how they did not let OU’s second half runs get to their heads and answered with several runs of their own to take back control of the game. As TK said after the game, while it was a very good win, its only January 21st so it really doesn’t mean much in the big picture of things which we know is Cleveland in March. Now on to next week with a couple of tough home games against Buffalo and Akron. Toledo just needs to continue to stay in the moment and continue to play good basketball and hope that we stay away from injuries, COVID and that we can begin to get some consistent quality production off the bench!

lots of good insights on the team. lovely how the team being good makes us all much more intelligent fan commentators.
team fun to watch, right. play together, have good chemistry. move the ball. dennis is the key. we are so much better as a team with him than MJ. everyone can score, everyone can dribble and everyone likes to pass.

great confident game from rollins. he is only a 2nd year player and is gonna force a few things, but his game gets more mature all the time. early season mac player of the year? rollins vs sears: points 26/14 missed shots 7/8 assists 5/1 turnovers 3/7 rebounds 6/4 win by 18/loss by 18.

Moss is becoming an excellent passer and better finisher. was already having knee issues earlier in the season so tonight might have been a tweak to an existing injury. having him in there makes a big difference.

they played their guys and didn't really sub. we matched them and gave the starters more minutes as the game went on and OU tired first. cramped up first. had shots start coming up short first. bench play was inconsequential. towns is a handful on the glass. jacobi and carcoana are going up against older players every game. i don't think we should be harsh on their potential this season. jacobi can hold his own in some matchups. OU isolated carter on him and that was a matchup TK wasn't gonna allow and jacobi's run was shortened tonight. saunders was solid. I heard edu will be back by Valentine's Day, can anyone confirm?
i think milner is up there with jd weatherspoon as the best rocket dunker of all time, because he gets so many different kinds and seems to drop the hammer in key moments. spoon was incredibly explosive off the ground, but milner is catching up in terms of highlight reel dunks.

Will echo the statements of many others here I'm sure, but great rockets win obviously. Glad Moss was okay after that knee injury, was not so sure about him earlier in the season but it is now evident that he is obviously vital, to the success of the team. Plays hard on both ends, decisive offensively and obviously a first team all mac type defender. On Rollins, a pro. Continues to impress me night in and night out, was really glad he outplayed Sears on national TV, and it wasn't really close. Sears had started garnering some real momentum for MAC POY and Rollins was a big part of beating him and co. on their home court. Echoing what many have said on Dennis, what a pickup he was. Great defender, and excellent decision maker and mature leader offensively. Team showed some real grit tonight and maturity, able to weather the storm with some sketchy officiating, and JT in foul trouble. Jacobi struggled matchup wise, but still provided some good rest minutes for the starters. Setric really in a zone this season, largely benefiting from the attention needing to be paid to Rollins/Shumate/Dennis, really large part of our success. Was nervous going in, but we showed out, let's keep moving!

Congrats, Rockets on that big win. Looked impressive. That should quiet some voices in Athens. At least for awhile.

Good luck moving forward except on Feb. 22 when you visit Kalamazoo. Our guys are pathetic so I'm hoping for a 24 hour case of food poisioning for Rollins, Shumate, Dennis and Millner. Western might have a slight chance then.

Always good to beat the best in the east. 04-cheers

Milner's dunk in the final minutes might be my all time favorite Rockets slam. When Moss broke away with the ball and was closing in on the hoop I was holding my breath and wondering if he was going to break the backboard trying to make up for his blown dunks he had in the past couple days, but then, when he pulled up at the last second and scooped the ball high off the board to Milner soaring in for the slam I was leaping out of my chair to the ceiling myself.

Fricken poetic 04-rock

The first ollyoop was a THROW DOWN!

Each dunk concluded the previous act, with an intermission inbetween and a standing ovation to follow!

It tickled me when rollins hit one of those tough fadeaway turn arounds, one of the cbs announcers said “ok now he’s just flat out playing like a pro” I thought the defense on rollins was pretty solid he just hit some unbelievably tough shots in a tough environment! and like you all said I just think ray j is a better fit for this team than marreon, a pass first get the others going first kinda point guard

What a fun game to watch on TV with a big game atmosphere. I just love how this team didn't panic when OU made their runs. We calmly shut it down and dropped in a few buckets to keep a comfortable lead. I'm glad RJ is making me eat my words when MJ left. We are such a better team with him at the point. MJ was a shoot first point guard. I just hope we keep this going and not flame out at tournament time.

I was wondering the same thing - has Moss learned how to dunk yet. And I expected a hammer. Then he just kissed it off the board and Milner did the finish. I think my neighbor heard me yell.

The best part? The unselfishness of Moss, and teeing it up for Setric. To me, that shows the mentality of this team. They are all working together, looking for the easy shot, or helping a team mate.

I don't know what will happen, or what we will get from AJ, but he sure can't hurt. I also don't want to get my hopes up too much. We all know the history.

Note to team; I'm getting old, I remember 1980, sure would like one more trip before I go into my little urinal.

I am old school when it comes to the alley-oop dunk (great steal, though) but knowing what they probably went through with that crowd I say Yeah Baby!!!

Back in the day, believe it or not, their student section was in the bleachers directly behind the visitors bench. Yes, their student had their knees in the backs of the players the whole game. It was a tough, brutal crowd but they were also some of the funniest in the league.
One years Coach Nichols wore a cardigan sweater with shirt and tie and the whole game they were on him for trying to look like Mr. Rogers.

Incredible road win to say the least. These kids are tough minded and this win should only reinforce their confidence. They are the real deal in so many ways. With any bench at all they would be unstoppable but then that is our Achilles heel, as always.
PACK SAVAGE!!!!!!!
They deserve it!

Three wins in March

That is what we all want. This is nice and all but hearing Rollins say this was payback from the tourney last year made my eyes roll. This is a step but I have seen this movie so many times the last couple years all I want is three wins in March

We can't get those 3 wins in March for another 7 weeks. Until then, let's just enjoy the ride!
