Who is our next coach?
Call Pearl and make him say no.
Pitino, Marshall. I have heard Sean Miller is very interested.
2nd tier would be Forbes, Archie Miller, Richard Pitino.
My bet and he would kill it here = Forbes. Has Wake Forrest 15-4 in 2nd year. Dude just wins. No BS with him. Got to think he would take it. Memphis way better job.

RE: Who is our next coach?
Pearl is not even worth mentioning. This is just retarded. There is no no way in hell he would leave his successful program at Auburn to come to this dumpster fire. Not only is it a dumpster fire, it's a dumpster fire with NCAA sanctions looming. The same goes for Pitino. Stop being stupid even mentioning coaches like this.
The only one I see that might be a remote possibility is Marshall. And that is only because he was fired in disgrace... and only then if we throw 3 or 4 million dollars at him. And even then, does he still have the fire to be great? I don't know but he is the only possibility, imo, to make a quick turn around.
But whatever we do, we need to hire someone who knows WTF they are doing when it comes to coaching college basketball and stop with the ridiculous hires like Penny and Opie.

Stupid? I agree Pearl is very likely a no. But all I am saying is inquire. He is at freaking auburn. Not one of the blue bloods. Inquire and then move on.
Pitino is 27-9 at Iona his alma mater.
Miller is a studio analyst.
Marshall sitting home.
Forbes at Wake Forrest.
Pearl is only one I mentioned who has a better gig than Memphis right now.

RE: Who is our next coach?
No one with an established record of success.
If they manage not to make bad hire #4 in a row, and whoever it is then manages to turn this **** show around will be gone to a bigger, better conference - just like Fuente and Norvell did in fb.
After this implosion is over it might take a decade to recover - and before you argue - think about how long it's been since Tiger bb even appeared in the big dance (8 years) much less made a S16 (12 years).
Next year's team could be the worst team in 50 years.

Just totally depends who they hire. If Sean Miller or Forbes it happens pretty quick. Agree, extremely important to get it right.

RE: Who is our next coach?
I really don't know how coaches perceive the Memphis job at this point. That being said who knows what names out there would be interested if it opened up.
I'm a old guy, so I've lived through Bartow, Yates, Kirk, Finch, Tic, Jones, Cal, Josh, Tubby and Penny. I've seen a lot of ups and downs over the years, but never have I felt so utterly hopeless about the program. We have a been a downward spiral for a decade filled with drama, and there's zero indication that anything will change in the near future. I'm not even sure we are capable of making a "right" hire at this point. It's hard to see where we go from here.
It sucks.

If I was Laird Veatch, Todd Golden would be the first person I would call.

Laird doesn't make the decision. The guys writing the checks get to decide who the fb and bb coach is. Laird gets to hire the volleyball and golf coaches.

Okay, that make sense. But Golden, to me, would be the guy that has a realistic chance of coming here. Got to be a little bit realistic.

I think Forbes and Sean Miller are 100% realistic. Richard Pitino, Archie Miller. All those guys would be in play.

Apparently according to many--the media or Caulkins in particular decides

RE: Who is our next coach?
I'm all for Greg Marshall. Good Coach. Won't happen though. Tired of the side show craps.
Anybody notice Malcolm didn't play the second half. Another unseen injury ? Or a childish coaching decision. Really tired of his BS. THERE'S SOMETHING REALLY WEIRD GOING ON WITH THESE INJURIES. We never see them happen. It's several days later before a game, Williams got hurt, Duren got hurt, Alo got hurt, Nolley got hurt. Now it's "I can't win with this depleted team you F'ers. His strength coach and team trainer must really suck. And the BS with Rashhed is just that. He better get these prima donnas back on the court with a case of damn tape and ice em after the game ... cause nobody's buying it. Finish out the year and head back to those golf courses in Florida. Penny hell ... it's getting to be *****

Honestly, I think Penny probably deserves another year at this point. But his leash should become significantly shorter if this season isn't salvaged in some way. But if Sean Miller wanted it, and we knew for sure he'd take it, I do not think I'd hesitate to part ways and hire him.
Mostly because of this: Penny has engrained his brand into Memphis Tigers basketball. I worry about how you can disconnect the Penny brand out of recruiting because that's what I see. The NBA pedigree, the 1Cent brand, and everything that's come with it has been a catalyst for recruiting and if that goes - does the new exposure still mean we get great recruits, or does the intermingling of the brands cause damage when he's fired in perception? (I guess this would mostly depend on what recruits are really seeing and wanting.)
But out of all the options...(Rick Pitino notwithstanding but his history and his age I'd say no)...Sean Miller would be the name recognition and history of success that would overcome that, and if we wanted out of the Penny era, I think that would be the best solution overall.
