One of the more attractive ones in recent memory.
Love hosting an in-state school. Helps attendance.
The game with Lynch and Garrapolo was a classic.
Believe it was our last sellout (or nearly).
If we're going to play a FCS school we should only keep it to playing a rotation of WIU, SIU, ISU, and EIU. Playing Maine, Presbyterian, Cal Poly, and all these other random far off FCS schools makes no sense. Although EIU has a combined 3-26 record the last three seasons so I doubt they have enough fans who care about their team to show up at NIU.

Keeps the pay-out money in state to ensure them as a viable program. Pay-out money also assists in the salaries of peripheral members of the athletic department and keeps Illinoisans employed.

No matter their record the in state FCS’s will bring more fans than out of state. Except NDSU, which the MAC should court if it hasn’t already.

A FCS team that travels better than probably all teams in the MAC combined? Heck ya! Expand with them.

NDSU makes little to no sense to join the MAC if for no other reason than geography. DeKalb (the farthest West school) to Fargo is 597 miles. DeKalb (the farthest West school) to Buffalo (the farthest East school) is 598 miles (Buffalo to Fargo is 1,179 miles). North Dakota is seperated from Illinois by two states (either Wisconsin and Minnesota or Iowa and South Dakota.
Bringing in NDSU would double the size of the footprint of the conference and would shift the geographical center of the conference to NIU which is currently the only school in the Central time zone. Not only that, but it would greatly increase travel expenditures across all sports.
The only way NDSU would be a viable option is if 1) Buffalo left the conference and 2) the MAC expanded toward the West into places like Iowa and either Minnesota, South Dakota, Nebraska and/or Missouri.
Personally, I think there's a better chance the MVC makes the move to FBS (and the football only schools join as full members) than NDSU leaves to join a conference that is almost entirely situated in the Eastern time zone. And this is knowing full well that the FBS schools don't want to add another FBS conference since they shot down the advancements of the WAC.

Wanted the W, feel we still deserve it actually. Wonder if those refs are being called on the carpet?
Bright side to our "loss": Chip on players shoulder for 2022, increased buzz week of game due to the rip off scandal.
Good exposure this post season in general, GO HUSKIES!

We will get to see a few former Huskies during OOC.
CB Mark Aitken is at EIU.
Safety (now WR) Nick Rempert is at Tulsa.

I like this notion, kindly pass it along to the p*ssies at NU and U of Illinois that are scared to schedule us....

FYI ... if no one else posted ...
Google "future NIU football schedules;" end up at fbschedules.com/ncaa/northern-illinois. You'll see in-state FCS is already the scheduling strategy (and has been for several years) ...
2022 EIU, 2023 SIU, 2024 WIU, 2026 IllSt. Apparently couldn't get one for 2025, so sked is Holy Cross. All games at Huskie Stadium.

He might be the first player to play for NIU while collecting Social Security.

Pugh is still in play. Hammock won’t kick him out of the nest. He will get every opportunity to finish his last year of eligibility. Like Deveaux.

Pugh is the kind of kid you want to have around the program. Great kid, great leader. Won't surprise me if he comes back as GA/assistant coach and he really takes off as a coach. If that is what he wants.

Nick Rattin has played more games than Kyle Pugh. I’d love to have Pugh back but he is purely a luxury. I would still have a competition for starting MLB even with his return.

Pugh was a member of our 2014 class. Crazy how long ago that was.

If Pugh got a full ride in 2014 and if for some reason he still has eligibility for the 2022 season, has his scholarship covered all of his education from 2014-2022?

It's official! Off-season program kicked off this morning and who was in the weight room?? Kyle Pugh! Let the 8th or 8th or 9th year be the charm!! Last year it was Deveaux who had his first ever full season being healthy, hopefully this year it can happen for Pugh!
