Golson had a great game but we need more low post scoring so that the post can kick out Doran open look. The other thing killing this team is turn overs . We get way too many turnovers. At this pace we will be a 0.500 team in the conference. If we can average 10 TOs or less and find consistent low post scoring, we will see improvement and be successful.
CMU will be a tough game. Our guards are not consistent scorers so every game we need to fight and scratch on defense and offense.
That pretty much sums it up.
Noah is fabulous, but he is a FRESHMAN, while he handles the ball reasonably well, his passing skills leave a lot to be desired. Ball State designed their defense primarily to stop him getting points and while that should have created open looks for Monty and McBride, we did not take advantage of such.
Let's face it, our frontcourt is not very talented. Ballard, Okongo, Jihad and Njie don't see the court much if they play for Ball State. Spottsville is busting his butt but he is playing the 3 position at 6'4" and does not exactly thrill anyone with his offensive skills. Golson is impressive, but when your 4 pos guy is only 6'6" well... Nate Scott is decent but hardly spectacular and Binelli, was as usual MIA. There is a reason you never Heath playing less than three guards, we clearly have a dearth of firepower in the frontcourt.
A .500 season might actually be overly optimistic based on our roster this year. I'm not disgusted, Stan could have recruited three more players of Nate Scott's caliber instead of Njie, Randle and Jihad and we would have a better team this season. I think he mistakenly thought Binelli would be somewhat available and opted for young guys who might build his program instead of more talented seniors like Nate.
I'm going to sound like a broken record, but can you imagine how good this team could be if someone stayed home instead of matriculating to Indianapolis?
