We have been close to selling out Apogee, but it has yet to happen. It is the same story at any program. We just haven't been able to sustain success to the point we have sellouts. It is disappointing because with the number of alumni and students we have, we would have sellouts if we had a better product on the field. Hopefully someday soon our leadership will bring in the right coach.

It’s a commuter school plain and simple. The students don’t care about athletics.

Yes they have a small good group of diehard fans like Tech and a few deep pocket donors but turning those 42k students and hundreds of thousands alumni into UNT fans has never materialized.

UNT has more students living on campus than LT has enrolled in their university.

Our students section fills up for home games (9,000 strong).

And, when our program is good, our fan base has attended games.

And, we still have a lot of room for improvement.

I think we can have a strong football and basketball conference here. I don't want to go to the Sun Belt. And the AAC is watered down after their recent adds.

I read this all the time from a few LA Tech fans, but the programs moving to the AAC are mostly the same programs LA Tech was facing in C-USA (UNT, UTSA, Rice ,& UAB). The AAC didn't add anyone outside of C-USA, and most were from C-USA West. I guess if another spot opens up in the AAC, LT isn't interested in an invitation?

Yeah Exactly. If we end up in the AAC, by the time we get there many of the programs I wanted to be in a conference with will be gone and many of the programs I wanted to get away from will be there. I would take WKU and Liberty over every program the AAC took...except maybe UAB. The conference is going to be watered down. And I don't believe for a second SMU will share a conference with UNT. They'll be gone. Six months ago it would've been an exciting move. Now? Not as much. Does that mean Tech wouldn't accept an invitation just because I feel that way? No it doesn't. They'd probably take someone like Texas State over Tech anyway. They're interested in markets, not programs.

RE: Spilling some Beans...CUSA TV Negotiations...LA Tech And the Sun Belt....etc
I'm just done with this conversation and what college football has come to. I used to love going to games and watching them for my Alma Mater. My late mother and I would call each other at half of games, FB, MBB, WBB. I have been happy to see softball, and baseball (my BIL played for Tech) get better and better. But I'm biased. When I went to Tech from 1987-1992, we were firing on all cylinders in most sports. We don't have a market, but I love Tech. I wish everyone all of the best, but I will always STRONGLY AND FOREVER support my school.

Why isn't this in the realignment thread? You started with tv info but it turned into La Tech almost joining the Sun Belt.

WKU looked much better than App who is the darling of SBC. ULL losing their coach will drop down quickly.

Fortunately (or unfortunately) WKU just lost both of their offensive coordinators - 1 to a Sunbelt school, and one to a P5. That isn't a small loss as that offense was outstanding.

You're not exactly correct there. The one that went to the SBC (Ellis) lost his job as the sole offensive coordinator last season because he wasn't getting the job done. Kittley was the one calling shots this season.

Yeah. No one is really excited about Ellis in Statesboro, but it seems that he may not be in full control of the offense here either. I think this was an agreement between the Helton bros.

I think going to the Belt at this point could be fun but I hate to say it too but I am more excited about CUSA 4.0 than the AAC. We have already been in that conference and it hasn’t worked.

First thing I heard is that CUSA is trying its best to secure a future TV deal to keep the league relevant. Even though the league has gotten commitments from other schools to join, the long-term viability is still very much in doubt due to lack of interest from TV execs. Bids for broadcasting rights might actually end up coming in lower than what it currently has. Not good.

2nd......LA TECH came very close to ending up in the Sunbelt. LA Tech's AD pursued a return to the Sunbelt but it all came down to JMU. Appy State, Coastal and Georgia Southern all pushed hard for Eastern expansion with Marshall, ODU and JMU. If the JMU deal fell through, it was going to be LA Tech added to the west. JMU got their ducks in a row and the rest is history.

So what does this tell me? La Tech is very likely next in line for a Sunbelt invitation if the landscape moves again.

Wow! All that history and success at LT and they still got passed over for an FCS call up. 04-jawdrop
There’s more to this. JMU is more than an FCS call up. JMU will conform to FBS very quicky. Like Liberty, it has learned to not keep an FCS staff and compete at the FBS level like we did. The second ODU brings in an FBS coaching staff the first season under his command the season literally turns around right before our eyes. JMU also fits in to the geographical map the Sunbelt appears to want. Then there’s academics, but we don’t care for those apparently….

SBC is the bottom of FBS and will remain the bottom. Just added more bottom feeders "the red snapper league"

Another thread with the sole purpose of providing a forum for those departing the conference a way to belittle those remaining so as to boost their egos. Wonderful.
