Nice to see Kline sign! I'd been waiting anxiously for that one.

That said, I believe I counted 12 WRs coming back next season. Assume all (or almost all) are scholarship players.

Would I take a 'too good to pass on' WR, yes; otherwise, I would pass.

Hard to fault a kid for that. It's a p5 school in his home state. Good for him. Maybe he'll reconsider EMU if/when he transfers.

Yep. I think that one play during the Ga 6A state championship game (I actually accidently stumbled across the whole game tape) earned him his Ga Tech offer.

If he were a college player, he would have made himself millions with that highlight. Kiper and McShay would be going giddy.

If he can’t make it at Ga Tech, doubt he could make it in the MAC. Good luck to the young man!

We have 17 returning OL but we still took a couple.

I think the difference there is linemen are almost always a project coming out of high school as most still need some physical growth and strength training to be able to play at the college level. It's much less unusual to see WRs (or other "skill" players, for that matter) who can contribute even in their actual freshman year. Offensive linemen need to be built and trained in a "next man up" mentality that can take two or three years, so you need a steady supply of them upcoming.

I'll dive in deeper later but this appears to be an EXCELLENT class. We filled holes at LB, D.E. and got 2 very good lineman. Great job coaching staff of hitting the portal for what should be 2 plug and play linebackers. We are undersized and we're getting washed out all year with current personnel.

Awesome job. we definitely got better today

I agree with all of that. I would add that while I like our running backs, and its a pretty young group, with Hamilton on his way out we don't have anyone with that breakaway speed. Jackson-Anderson seems to have that and appears to be a pass catching threat out of the backfield.

What's the story on the LB from BC? He didn't play this year. Injury? Something else?

Agree. EMU had a signing class with SURGICAL precession.

As Cid... said, OL are always recruited for future delivery a few years down the road.

We needed two LBs to play inside and these two have the size and P5 experience.

We need Reese at TE as that position is being thinned out after Saturday.

We need an (or two or three) DEs who can rush from the edge. We got one.

We need a RB to replace one who will be done Saturday.

I would assume we'll get say another 1/2 dozen in February so we'll continue to fill holes or holes created by transfers.

RE: Football Signing Day Thread. 12/15/21
I wonder if this VERY small class is a sign that a lot of the seniors will use their extra year? Some of our better players (guys like Beydoun, Drummond, Sow) should be finishing up their senior year Saturday, however because of the COVID season have the option to come back next year. Hopefully this means they will play one more season at EMU as opposed to transferring/going pro/hanging it up all together.

I thought those guys were a lock to come back. I thought that this was their 4th yr and they still have a redshirt senior yr, correct? I'm confused with all the covid extra yr stuff. If we lost Drummond, beydoun or Sow I would be devastated. Our offense for the most part was very good and I think will be just as good next yr and I hope they are a part of it.

Will we find out who is staying and going based on updated roster on the school site? if so, how often does that get updated

O/T, kind of. To show how difficult it is to develop some kind of valid measure of recruiting success look at Jackson State.

They are ranked #116. just ahead of us. Doesn't sound good? Unpack the signings and it is very different.

First, 247 scored 4 H.S. recruits, including the #1 recruit in the nation (who flipped from FSU).
Next, they mentioned, but did not score, a bunch of mostly P5 transfers.

So with 4 H.S. recruits they look like 'losers' based on 'total points' yet I would rank their haul could easily fit for say an AAC team.

This is the same 'problem' (it isn't really a problem) we have with limited h.s. signees. The system simply adds points for each h.s. recruit which reward quantity over quality.

Agree with all the comments about this class being a,solid 3 star one and one where recruits had P5 offers. The two LBs are the key pieces I think to improving the defense. The D line and DB unless we get more transfers well the improvement will be based on the development of the players we have. We have some solid young guys at DB. The D line well.....

The future of the DL would seem to be: Ramirez, Evans, Swindle, Bogard, etc. plus a lot of other young players who may blossom in years ahead.

We have recruited well. Just a matter of time before it pays off.

There are now about 4 young DEs on the roster. Hopefully at least 2 of them develop into very productive players.
