Height: 6′ 6″ , Weight: 234 lbs , Grad student. Izayah Green-May looks like he will fit right in. Hope he stays healthy.

The size brings back memories of "The Mad Stork" Ted Hendricks.

RE: Transfer Portal Pick Up
I'm pretty sure that we are going to enter a period of great movement with this program. I think with 85 "freshmen" on the roster there is going to start to be some movement out as there has to be some talent far down on the depth chart that realizes that they aren't going to play much.
On the flip side---there has to be some "Big Ten" talent that fits the same mold that thinks that they can come here and play---especially on the defensive side of the ball.
Coach Hammock's biggest conquest in the next couple of years, starting with now, is to continue to grow this culture so that we "lose" as little top tier talent as possible and that he can be open and honest to those who want different opportunities.
Coaching nowadays has to be completely different that it was even three-five years ago----it's almost like a GM position now.
I fully expect NIU to be very active in the portal to shore up spots to make us even better....NOBODY is going to pick us last next year.

Completely agree MP with such a young roster some kids are gonna leave and understandably so. I would like to add that with winning with such a young roster will some complacency set in? Will they lose that hunger? Things for Coach Hamm to possibly have to deal with.

So this will plug the hole from Lance graduating for one more year and hope the younger guys develop for one more season.

RE: Transfer Portal Pick Up
At 6’6” I wonder if they’ll slide him over to D-end? Pressure is still a problem and our most athletic end, Kennedy, will be gone.
Thomas and Oppong may size themselves out of the position. 285 and 275 makes it hard to be quick to the QB unless you’re a special athlete.

Kennedy has another year of eligibility left, and even on the roster is listed as a JR, so I believe his plan is to come back. That being said, yes I think Green-May will be at DE. He's listed as a OLB @ Wisc but they run a lot of 3-4 defense so essentially has always been a DE/Pass Rusher

No doubt he’s playing end.
I would expect you will see NIU pick up 1-2 more transfer WR’s in addition to possibly Lynch.

Didn’t know that about Kennedy. That’s great to hear. For some reason it felt like he was one of those old dudes.
Maybe it’s just me but I’m really looking forward to a much improved defense in ‘22. Every position should be bigger & better. Just need to bolster the LBs to fill Lance’s departure.

RE: Transfer Portal Pick Up
I expect incoming transfers to be pretty much done. With only 8 players "graduating" and 26 commitments/transfers, the roster is going to be at 130 players give or take. That likely means after the bowl game we will see some guys prodded out the door by some very frank conversations with the coaches. STF has said he is ok with the roster staying above norm for a few years as the covid eligibility plays out, but the max number I've ever heard him mention as a goal to stay near/at/under is 115...

He is one of those old dudes haha. He will be in his 6th season having taken a RS and the covid year... He will be one of 8 players taking advantage of a 6th year. Along with one 5th year. So a SR class at 9 for next year.
The rest of the roster for next year:
7 JRs
41 Sophs
71 freshmen
Keep in mind all those #'s are based off eligibility remaining, and not every guy is going to make use of the extra year. It is also based on who had or had not burned a RS prior to the MACC game and there are numerous whose status could change based on that game and the bowl. Also, the commits and transfers as they stand now, as far as I know, so definitely probable that some of that changes somewhat as well if guys don't actually sign or any more transfers happen.

Does Lynch have a redshirt year available? Even if he's talented, I can't imagine they'd take the job from Rocky at this point.

I don't think Lynch would take Rocky's position outright. Could he play another position?
(12-06-2021 03:18 PM)7 Wrote: Lynch just completed his true freshman year. Rocky has one year left. The two have nothing to do with each other. Lynch would redshirt next year.
7, Thanks for the clarification. Makes sense.
