Point Park game
Obviously, this game will be an easy win. But I'm concerned about Garcia. According to Senderoff he is still unable to play and is going to see a specialist "soon". He figured to play a major role this season. It is his 6th year in college ball. His first season took a redshirt due to a knee, and his second year he played only 11 games because of a knee. And there is no word on Odusipe. Unfortunate.

The only certainty in life is death, taxes, disappointing transfers from 4 year schools from better conferences.

Cleveland, no Jacobs. Obviously, he would have got in the game if he were able to. Could be anything, but I hope he isn't the first transfer portal player of the season.

The disappointment is they have not been able to play ... can't fault a player for injuries/illness.

Point Park would have been the perfect game for him to have gotten some minutes. I can imagine how disappointed he must be. ... I'm not faulting the players for injuries/illnesses, just commenting on KSU's bad luck, although they had to know Garcia's knee history but thought it was a good risk. Be great if he is close to OK by January.

I do have a concern ... Odusipe aside, when all the players but Hamilton 6-6 or taller struggle to score 10 points vs. a vastly inferior opponent I see red flags.
And while it was Odusipe's first game of the season, 0-4 at the line is a red flag as well. Hamilton, Beck, Johnson, Hornbeak and now Odusipe all have time to get better ... but not much time.

RE: Point Park game
Jacobs and Garcia were present and in street clothes. Didn't see a noticable limp from Jacobs. Odusipe played and based on how he looked, I'm not sure he's the answer everyone is hoping for. He looked very raw.
Having seen the team in person twice now, I'd say the concerns about rebounding are legit. At this point we know what to expect from Beck and Hamilton. Beck is around a 7 per 40 min guy and Hamilton is around a 10 per 40. Both pretty average for their size.
Hornbeak appears likely to be the true big that gets the most run in the second unit. He's young and raw but as he gets some run you can expect him to improve. Also, he's looked good on the glass so far leading the team at nearly 13 per 40 mins. That could be fools gold as 12 of his 18 rebounds have come against our two non D1 opponents.
The other bench guy that has looked strong on the boards so far is VCD at 12.2 per 40 which is nearly identical to his numbers last season. He's barely played outside of the two non-d1 games this season though so yet to be determined if he stays on the floor enough to make a difference on the glass.
We have plenty of data on Garcia to know that he's solid not great. Likely around an 9 per 40 guy. In comparison that's only about one shy of where Pippen and Hamilton were last season for us. So certainly a guy that could be a help on the glass.
Johnson is interesting. Outside of Hamilton he's probably the most impressive looking athlete on the team. He's a legit 6'7" and can really jump. However that hasn't translated into being a plus rebounder yet. 7.5 per 40 last year so far 7 this year. If he commits himself on the boards I could see it being hard to keep him off the floor.
Where I think we can really make up for average rebounding is at the guard position. Carry and Jacobs are exceptional rebounding guards. Carry's a 6 per 40 guy and Jacobs is even better. He was near 7 last year and is at 9.4 so far this year. Basically rebounding is like the team's outlook as a whole. We've got some solid pieces... But Jacobs and Carry can make us special.

Not faulting them. Just saying when guys transfer down there are a lot of reasons (injuries being one of them) that make me skeptical as to how much they will help. We’ll see as the season goes on.

Good point, Burden. With Garcia it is a history of knee issues. Let's hope he can contribute come MAC time.

RE: Point Park game
In fairness to Garcia, he's not the typical transfer down guy. He played one COVID shortened season at Georgia after being a successful player at Stony Brook for 3 years. As for other recent "transfer downs" I would say we should be pretty happy with Hamilton and Beck. If you expect role players at big schools to come here and be MAC POY candidates you're selling the quality of basketball in the MAC short. Expectations should be hoping for a quality starter which Beck and Hamilton are.
I don't know if we should count Duquesne to Kent as a transfer down. Outside of Kent it probably would be thought of as such. And Carry looks like the real deal.
