WAC Digest Rankings... Do you agree?
https://www.wachoopsdigest.com/aggies-wo...-rankings/

1. New Mexico State (5-1)
2. Utah Valley (5-1)
3. California Baptist (5-1)
4. Seattle U (5-1)
5. Grand Canyon (4-1)
6. Stephen F. Austin (4-2)
7. UT Rio Grande Valley (4-2)
8. Tarleton State (1-5)
9. Sam Houston State (2-4)
10. Abilene Christian (1-2)
11. Dixie State (1-4)
12. Lamar (1-5)
13. Chicago State (2-3)

I think GCU, SFA, and ACU are too low. And, UVU, Seattle U., and UTRGV are too high.

Biased garbage. As with everything in life, and especially WAC Basketball coverage, consider the source. Shocker these scrubs have nmsu and the Fighting Mark Madsens going 1, 2

About WAC Hoops Digest
For the past five years, I have covered the Utah Valley University men’s basketball team.

It is a journey that has taken me to places like Rupp Arena and Cameron Indoor Stadium. I have seen upsets, buzzer-beaters, and some huge non-conference wins. Through social media I have been able to meet fans from other schools in the Western Athletic Conference.

Coaches and players from schools around the WAC follow me on Twitter. 03-lmfao

Even New Mexico State allowed me to cover them during their 2019 NCAA Tournament game in Salt Lake City.

I agree with any ranking that has NMSU number one. Tarleton is too high…

Care to elaborate? Why don't you counter his points, and if you don't agree with them, make a counter argument.

I don't think its far off at all, based on what we know so far. This isn't a preseason ranking. It is based on your games so far.

He clearly said there isnt a big spread between some of the teams. If you can't even play right now, you certainly arent getting any wins.

ACU probably will end up higher than they are ranked by WHD now, but your single win against a 1-4 teams who is around 250 NET doesn't show it.

Well, we did play two top 100 teams on the road in which we held our own against one and only lost by one in double OT against the other. This list mentioned we had to take it to take our win to OT to be used against us, but didn't balance the other double OT in our favor. He liked to use the losses to higher ranked teams in favor of other WAC teams. Yes, I think it is pretty far off. Besides us, he doesn't rank others where they should be. COVID protocols saying that we couldn't play last week has zero to do with the ranking on this list. Like you both said, this list will change as the season progresses, but for now it's ridiculous. I like the argument that you get ranked lower because you played less games though...

For those of you not familiar with a power ranking, it only reflects what you have done to this point. How good your team is on paper or how the season will end up is not considered. Purely on what you have done. So if you have played less games, yes it will lower you in the rankings.

And power ranking is how lists should be produced? That is part of my argument. I'm glad that GCU beat 1-4 Grambling though who beat LA College by 10 points...

RE: WAC Digest Rankings... Do you agree?
I don’t see what everyone is so upset about. The teams with the best record are at the top. And the teams with the most wins against top 100 teams are the highest. Yes we have all heard over and over and over and over how amazing Tarleton is. But at some point you gotta start winning those games if you wanna be ranked higher. At this point it is a very early season ranking that will clearly change. All the schools that are ranked low will have the opportunity to prove themselves in the coming weeks. Chill out for now. As much as a lot of y’all think Texas is the center of the universe UVU and CBU are legit teams.

I think KenPom would have a better order, barring having UTRGV and CBU too low.

KenPom
107 NMSU
137 GCU
139 SFA
162 ACU
179 UVU
181 Seattle
195 TSU
205 SHSU
217 CBU
281 Lamar
286 UTRGV
309 DSU

I have no idea where I would put Tarleton. Based on records, this looks about right.

At some point we have to start getting D1 wins. After Monday, we have Charleston Southern, South Alabama (twice) and Air Force. Then we start conference play. I think we will have a much better feel for Tarleton after the four D1 games as they are winnable games.

This Tarleton fan is a clown. Kyle has done a great job covering WAC hoops for years and is respected by all fanbases.

Many years. In other words, longer than the teams that have only been here for a couple months...and can't even name all of the conference teams03-lmfao

If you just want to see the NET, RPI, or KenPom Rankings, simply use those and skip the board all together.

I think GCU, SFA, and ACU are too low. And, UVU, Seattle U., and UTRGV are too high.

Until the last few days, would have agreed with you. For example, I'd watched early NMSU games and had concluded each of your five starters completely outclassed all five of ours. But then you struggled a bit against NM Highlands, and we had a good night against Illinois. And CSU is ranked too low (in this list and on the other rating sites) for a team with two D1 wins. I'm guessing the following for this year:

1. No team will run the table in conference.
2. No team will be winless in conference.
3. At least 4 or 5 teams will go into the tournament with a legitimate shot at the championship.

I would not put too much stock on the margin of victory (or losses) in some of these games. Some schools play down to their competition while they are trying to figure things out; but usually find a way to win against lesser competition. NMSU and Illinois included. Its early in the season and coaches are still playing with line ups and substitution patterns.

Some WAC teams will bring their "A" almost every night and win most games. Other will win games with their "B". However, once they all converge on Las Vegas there will be a select few who will kick it into overdrive and start blowing through the competition all the way to the finals. NMSU tends to have an overdrive once they land in Vegas. GCU definitely had one too last season.
