Yeah that was a cold one. Another really cold one, about 18F and windy at kickoff (2:00 PM kickoff) was at Towson in 2008. Sunny but brutal. About damn near froze to death that afternoon.

This is why moving to the SBC will be great. We SHOULD get ODU in the final week of the season every year. A much more true rival. I don't care if it's going opposite the commonwealth cup. It'll become better than it real quick.

I looked back and using the 2004 season as a starting point of the modern JMU football era. Every season featured a "rivalry" game against Towson since 2004 except the following:
2010 - Maine
2011 - Massachusetts
2012 - Old Dominion
2014 - Elon
2015 - Villanova
2016 - Elon
2017 - Elon
2019 - Rhode Island
2020 - Not counting this year
17 seasons excluding 2020. 9 of 17 featured Towson, 3 featured Elon. Almost the entire 2010s decade, we bounced around.
The reality is that JMU doesn't have a FB rival but I suppose Towson was the one the CAA kept forcing on us with the leftovers after all the real rivals were matched up. The tigers were what was left over, regionally.
Actually, Towson was the de facto rival til Elon joined. We then went to those scheduling "pods" where we were in with RU, W&M, and Elon. RU had W&M of course, but you can see since Elon joined we had them 3 of their first 4 seasons. Maybe JMU pushed back at that point...

Haha- winning College President gets a bushel of the losing schools' "native oysters" (to be shipped via the Norfolk Southern Rail-door to door).

If the ODU vs JMU game is our SBC Thanksgiving day game, why not call it the “Turkey Bowl”?
Rockingham County is still the “Turkey Capital of the World”

Like others have said since we're not in the "making friends" business at this point with other CAA Programs/HCs we need to blow Rob Ambrose's Tigers out this weekend. No hard feelings. It's just something that needs to be done or we'll be on the road potentially for our quarterfinal matchup potentially with Villanova or Eastern Washington.
Towson is the 89th best rushing offense with 14 rush TDs in 10 games. We're the 5th ranked rush D. Giving up 7 rush TDs in 10 games. That good for tied 9th in fewest rushing TDs allowed.
I'm assuming it's Jerry Howard? 770 yards in 10 games. 77 ypg, 3 TDs.
UD's Dejoun Lee is the best statistical RB we've seen this season and he had 31 yards on 15 carries. 0 TDs.
VU's Covington is probably the true best RB we've seen, although he's only 64th nationally. He must've only went off on JMU. Covington was 86 yards on 13 carries and a TD. Almost all of that was his 56 yard TD though.

I don't believe we've had a punt or kickoff return TD since the day D'Angelo Amos went off for two at Villanova. 2019 season I believe? or 2018.

I hope it never receives that name. That’s dumb. Sorry. Haha
The reason being that’s ODU’s stadium “term”. It’s their thing. If you’re going with the oyster bowl, you might as well just call it the ODU invitational. It’d be all about them and their region.

RE: Week 12 - Towson at JMU, 2pm
It may not be adopted as the Oyster Bowl, but the event has a long history way before ODU started playing football. In Hampton Roads, it was the only chance to see big time D-1 football for many years. SEC teams, ACC teams. Mostly Virginia focused, but not always. You may have forgotten that JMU played in an Oyster Bowl already with ODU…the dreaded Heineke fluke Hail Mary game.

It should be called the Colonial Cup both as a nod to Virginia's past and for the conference they helped found in 1979.

That would be something that could be cool...e.g. Colonial Cup but when we win it has a picture of Culuko taking the shot and if Ol' Dirty wins it is a Heinekien picture throwing the TD at BFS the one year in their history they were any good

Absolutely NOT.....i don't think JMU nor ODU would have any interest in giving a tip of the cap to the Colonial (CAA).
That is a non-starter for me and i think it would be both schools.

Anyone know what's up w/ James Carpenter? Not listed on the 2 deep game notes. I watched last week (though without sound). Did he get injured? If so, did it look bad?

Not sure, but he didn’t play at WM last week either.

Pretty sure he got hurt against Campbell. I remember seeing him hobble of the field. I haven't heard him mentioned in the injury updates. Hopefully he can get back for the playoffs.

I can’t believe it’s been almost 13 years since Towson hired him. Remarkable how quickly it’s gone by. While his interview this week certainly took a number of digs at JMU, and the CAAs feelings towards JMU, he was very praiseworthy as well.
