I believe this to be true. I don't agree with the poster saying it will be a Texas centric conference. It will be whatever the hell Liberty wants it to be.

The SHSU board is about to meltdown.

If MTSU and WKU leave for the MAC, this conference map is going to look very, very strange. If this were what App had jumped to in 2012/2013, I believe everyone would've rather made a move to the CAA than join what this currently looks like.

Maybe the future state will be better? Anyone know if anymore FCS call-ups are in the works? Kennessaw State has more fan support than Georgia State and is in the same market. They would provide a rival for Jacksonville State.

Liberty and Jacksonville State just joined what will effectively be a Texas-centric conference, where every decision is viewed as if Texas is the center point.

Congrats to C-USA for not dying. But this is perplexing to say the least.

If WKU/MTSU stay, it's really not a bad conference.

Liberty, LA Tech, WKU are all perennially solid football programs that SHSU would be happy to share a conference with. UTEP seems to have found success.

There's good reason to be happy about the football, although I think it's certainly not ideal on footprint.

If MTSU gets it's act together in basketball, you have a really good basketball conference.

If JSU were in Troy's place and we where in JSU's spot I would still choose C-USA over FCS. More money, more exposure and better competition.

Western and Middle should stay in CUSA.

If Marshall were in their shoes, I would rather stay in a southern based conference like CUSA than the MAC.

Tough call. That ESPN deal for the MAC is enticing though.

Go get Missouri State for all sports and call it a day CUSA. If Western and Middle join the MAC, go get the Dakota schools for football only.

Yeah pretty much. Their crazily skewed budget dictates that it becomes a "haves vs have nots" relationship. They'll lobby for whatever they want. On the positive side though is that they can almost force athletic spending across the conference schools. That may promote debt, but also promote growth.

Kennesaw subsidizes 92% of their budget from student fees and other allocations. They would have to drastically cut spending somewhere else to afford the extra scholarships for football and additional women's sports to be Title IX compliant.

I agree with this..At least for the eastern side of the conference. Liberty will very likely dictate additions.

While 7 is better than 3, I fully expect at least 5 more FCS adds to get to 12, they may even need to get to 14..A conference this far flung will need divisions or travel costs will kill you..

TALK ABOUT A DEAD CONFERENCE.
The only thing good about this is UTEP now has NMSU as a conference partner a few miles up the road.

SAD,SAD, SAD

What were your expectations?

I agree with most of your points. However, MTSU/WKU are gone to the MAC (a mere announcement formality on Monday)....as a result, there really is no need to hypothetically envision how good the conference would be with them in it.

I highly doubt a conference of 7-9 teams that has UTEP and SHSU can be described as "Texas centric".

Right now it appears that they followed the Sun Belt model. Added travel partners for UTEP (NMSU) and LT (SHSU) - the latter being about 4 hours apart.

Liberty and FIU are on islands, with Jacksonville St in between. To be geographically correct, this seems like it might be a Louisiana-centric conference

MTSU has been loyal to Rick Stockstill all these years, when many of their fans have wanted him gone. Maybe their administration will be loyal to CUSA to maintain their southern US ties. Id much rather maintain my current recruiting territory and play Saturday November games in places like Miami, El Paso, Huntsville, Jacksonville, Ruston, Lynchburg, Las Cruces than Tues/Wed night games in Ohio and Michigan

Well if WKU and MTSU stay then you’ll need 1 more Texas (ACU?) school to break into 5 team divisions.

If they leave then that leaves multiple options in which looking at the Dakotas would be a nice option.

We get it, Marshall did not have a good experience in the MAC. Just because one school didn't, does not mean WKU will have same experience. Adding New Mexico St, Sam Houston and Jax st. does nothing for WKU. WKU would still be on an island. Not sure why still people are begging WKU to stay...All of this means Sam Houston now will be Judys best friends and the conference will center around an FCS newbie, no thanks...

Only one of the following can be true.

1. The four additions joined with the expectation that WKU and MTSU are staying.
2. The four additions joined with the expectation that WKU and MTSU are already gone.

If it's number 2, then these 4 schools have joined a conference which (on paper) is dead without even more FCS all-sports additions that are TBD. And even THEN, they'll require a waiver from the NCAA to maintatin FBS status. If it's number 2, then they'll also be forced to assume that LA Tech, FIU, and UTEP will be on the first boat out of port.

It doesn't make sense for CUSA to add only 4 schools if they're going to lose WKU/MTSU.
