I watched it live. Don't know if the video session was recorded, but I would guess it was required by state law and may be available now.
CK did his usual masterful job of walking the GA subcommittee (3 Representatives and 2 Senators) through the JMU proposed spreadsheet of anticipated expenses.
Tuned in just a bit late, so don't know if President Alger or AD JB spoke.
Besides CK, only ODU's Pres. spoke in favor of JMU's move as the only public testimony. No-one spoke against the proposal.
CK's testimony confirmed HC CC will receive a raise (as well as the assistants). CC's salary will grow based on the average salary of the other SBC HCs. About 350K will be added to the pool of money for assistants. At the FBS level the FB program can hire 3 additional coaches, and they will be hired, and the coaching salary money adjusted over a 3 year period starting now with the transition. A 2% inflation index is included with salary adjustments every 2 years.
Funding for the 22 additional scholarships will also be phased-in over 3 years. Overall, the entire JMU athletic budget will grow from the current $58 mil to $about $69 mil. That number includes everything, including spirit groups.
The vote was unanimous in favor.
Alger spoke and did an excellent job even after the committee chair butchered his name calling him Aggler! Good day to be a Duke!

That would be perfect :) I assume the official announcement will come at any time.

Our administration nailed it. For years we have been critical of them. Meanwhile behind our anger and frustration they were building a plan. I know I have been very critical of the admin, and I will admit I did not give them enough credit.
I said for a long time that I didn't think JMU would ever go to the Sun Belt, nor would the Sun Belt ever take us again. I didn't know that the decision for JMU not to accept was not a rejection of the Sun Belt, but JMU saying they needed more time.
As everything that has transpired, I am beyond elated for JMU to join the Sun Belt. If you had told me that JMU could be in an FBS conference with App State, Marshall and ODU I would have thought that was very unlikely but would be incredible.
I have a ton of respect for what the Sun Belt has done and honored that we will be in this conference. But to be clear: we are there to win.
And lastly, I challenge all of us as supporters of JMU to open your wallets and show your support.
JMU is FBS. Wow.
Thank you for posting this. Hopefully others who have consistently bashed the administration, and Jon Alger in particular, will also now take the time to admit they've been wrong about the administration.
JMU's administration did indeed "nail it." The administration's deft, smooth, and swift handling of the move "up" has resulted in the perfect fit for JMU's varsity athletics.
I would expect an announcement that JMU has accepted the SBC invitation shortly, perhaps even today, but more likely at tomorrow's game capping the 50th Anniversary Homecoming Game for JMU FB.
Well done, and Go Dukes!

Small quibble it was 4 Reps and 3 Senators on the committee, we just needed 3 Reps and 2 Senators to vote in favor for it to pass, but as you said UNANIMOUS!

I'm probably too emotional right now! Literally have dreamed of hearing this news for almost 30 years. Thank you Alger, King, Bourne, and everyone else. I feel like all those Red Sox fans that said they could now die happy after finally winning the 2004 World Series.

As a Red Sox fan, it does feel a bit like that.
Both seemed like they were never going to happen and that feeling of "wow this is actually happening" is a strange, wonderful feeling.
This feels a little different as the feel is a bit stretched out. Each development was a step closer.
But now that it is a reality, there is still going to be a transition period.
Then there will be a lot of firsts:
-Playing in BFS as an FBS team
-Playing FBS vs FBS
-Playing first FBS team at home
-First bowl game
etc, etc.
Still a lot to look forward to. It's like a gift that is going to keep on giving. It will be a little unpleasant until we are officially Sun Belt, but looking forward to the journey.

Thanks. I guess I misheard the Chair of the committee. I had thought he was referencing 3 and 2...maybe he was not counting himself?

They were booked for 2 hours....and took 35 minutes. This was a slam dunk.
And a testament to how well-managed the process was. Having the ODU Prez speak was a great touch, but that didn't happen by accident. Again, kudos to Alger, CK and JB for getting all the ducks lined up in a row.

There was a voice vote in what everyone heard. He stopped once the number needed was met. There is also a recorded vote. I am sure, that will reflect all 8 who voted.
