Methinks the fan base doth protest too much. Sure are a lot who repeat ad nauseam how little they care.

His parents have reported that he's doing fine. He has a concussion but looks like no serious issues.

With it being a head injury it looked that we were just being cautious (very understandable). Definitely glad it wasn't serious.

Kudos to the Panthers for reacting the way they did.

that's a relief to hear for the player and his family. made my heart stop with the way he left the field. wishing him a speedy recovery.

It’s a coping mechanism. Imagine talking **** for years on end about how GSU is beneath you, that GSU will never beat southern, and then when when the games start being played, you **** the bed more often than not. What are you gonna do after talking so much ****? Be gracious? Of course not. You pretend that the team doesn’t care, that the reason you lose year in and year out is because “we’re their Super Bowl,” that the team hardly even wake up for this game because we’re so indifferent about it. Just go over to the southern forum and see how they really feel.

Hell, if all the losing is a result of you not considering it a rivalry, well maybe it’s time to reconsider.

I guess our players were right after all when they said they don’t view State as a rival. We aren’t competitive at all in the series. State isn’t their rival. State is their daddy.

You can frame this post for your living rooms State fans.

Can we take a moment and appreciate how bizarre it is that Georgia State has .750 winning percentage down at Paulson Stadium at Stateaboro despite all that yelling and hollering going on in that stadium. Absolutely doesnt make sense always escaping with close wins but I'll take it!

I'm really not sure what Georgia State fans want to hear. Congratulations? Nice job?

We went 34 years after starting our program and only had 3 losing seasons. We're about to have 3 in our last 6. We are a soggy **** sandwich of a program and it's due to Tom Kleinlein being such a douche that a good coach took any train out of town and then followed that up with 2 terrible hires. We suck. We will probably suck next year too.

Congratulations. You won. Again. Great job everyone.

Now for the part that Georgia State fans aren't comprehending: whether we lose to you or not, our fanbase is more upset about the overall state of our program since 2015 than we are about individual games. I hate losing to App, but I can't be super disappointed about losing to them in 2006, 2009, 2016, 2017, 2020, and (soon) 2021. If our team sucks and the game doesn't have any stakes, it's just another loss. Everything these days is just another loss. And that sucks. Thanks TK, you complete anal pustule.

You know good and well it would be a different tune if y'all won and the series was suddenly even.

It's funny, PantherTalk, AJC comments section, Twitter, here used to be so much chest puffing from the Southern contingency.

Congratulations on your history, sorry you aren't any good. Way to keep downplaying it.

It's obvious we care. In little ole Statesboro in the middle of a lame duck season with not much to cheer for the fans show up. If caring matters then we'll be fine.

And yes their all standing.

This rivalry reminds me of how Manchester united fans feel about city fans. The main rival is Liverpool they were the ones Utd cared about beating. City was the noisy neighbors that complained they weren't respected and were the true Manchester team. Now city has become a force and Utd is struggling since Sir Alex left. Very similar situation to this GS and Utd fan.

Not sure how fans would respond. Other than being thankful for somehow winning and evening up the series.
We would still be mad at the current situation the former AD and his coaching hires left GS in.

You won. We suck. Just want to finish the season and see if the new coach is going to put GS back on course to win titles and bowl games. I just hope we don't go back to Flex and find a great HC with a competent staff.
Maybe we blow the extra espn money on this next hire.

Georgia Southern used to have a reason to chest puff. As it stands, you are beating just another bad team because that's what Southern has become under Summers and Lunsford. You don't have the history with them in football to feel any sympathy, which is fine. But this has become sad and in some ways App fans are probably feeling some sympathy pains because if it can happen to Georgia Southern it can happen anywhere.

I don't care about the W-L record (I mean at least as far as the question of if it's a rivalry). We left the SoCon with a 2-4 record against Samford as a conference mate. Does that make that a rivalry?

What really undermines the "not a rivalry" thing is 28k in the dome for a "white out" in 2014, 23k for a game in December after the students were done with finals, 18k to see a 0-7 GS team in 2017, and the insane crowd and atmosphere for Tookie Brown's senior day game at Hanner Fieldhouse. You can compare notches in the belt all day but those are what tell the story.

At any rate, I'm fed up with the same conundrums in every coaching search. With the advent of the transfer portal and the NCAA lifting the cap on signing class size it's as good a time as ever to go to a more generic offense. Let the old timer flexbone fundamentalists pitch a fit. These coaching change conundrums we put ourselves in are why we have 4 losing seasons since 2006 and working on the fifth one while App has none.

I have actually followed GS football for a long time and cheered for them whenever they were on tv or in the playoffs. Had numerous friends who went there. As a lifelong Tech fan as well I even felt some type of kinship with the program after CPJ was hired and I became a real aficionado of the offense. Loved that Jaybo had success there as well. Hell, my dad even played football for Russell at Grady High School, if you can believe it! I would have continued to pull for Southern had my school not started football.

Yeah, the student section was rowdy because they've had it shoved down their throats that this was a rivalry game since joining the school. Not a single student there has seen a true winner of a Georgia Southern team to know what success looks like. Not to mention they just like to do stupid **** during games to get opposing players riled up. Typical college student stuff.

The fans, on the other hand, were completely dead. There was rarely a time they were standing up the whole game, and they didn't even stand up during Freedom's Flight. Hell, even Freedom gave up and flew away. That was really indicative of the state of the football program. I can definitively say that atmosphere felt more dead than when we last played Coastal Carolina at home (where both benches got unsportsmanlike conduct fouls for having a dance off) and when we played Savannah State years ago.

You’ve mentioned Savannah State twice now in this thread, lol. If you’re so nostalgic for the days when your team hosted Savannah State, maybe it’s time to drop back down to FCS so you can host a now-D2 program that’s in your backyard and may be a more natural rival and opponent for you these days.

2013 We were 4-8, or so I think.

If we moved back down and got crowds like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61TdbhNokTY I'd gladly do it, as long as App State still played us every year. Notice the energy there versus the energy when Georgia State just came to play. Enough said about whether it's a rivalry.

Was this when the student section got in trouble for throwing stuff at SSU's cheerleaders or was that a different time?

Sounds like y'all are really really clamoring for the good ol' FCS days.
