He still wants to play regional teams OOC and named UAB specifically. I think UAB and the LA Tech rivalries will continue. Which is good for all of us.

I think it's a given USM and UAB will play in football. Its a game we both can bus to and cut travel expenses in half for an OOC game. I'd much rather play you guys than U-Mass, U-Conn or T-roy.

I figured UAB fans would enjoy playing and driving to Troy, at least as a means to take a break from the daily smog that clouds their minds.

Coming to see our water silo in downtown is an added bonus also.

That's great for USM. With 5 division games every year that are home games or drivable (San Marcos is a bit far) a combination of LaTech and UAB will give you 7 games a year that are either home games or drivable. That's over half your schedule and should help build attendance with away fans' attendance. That's if UAB and LaTech are scheduled every year though. I could see you switching between the two possibly to free up OOC scheduling.

Yep, that's more likely.

Or just not schedule them like they would with you. But USM has class.

I am sure there will be sort of non conference scheduling with Tech and UAB in multiple sports. Makes sense, but that doesn’t always add up….

Would definitely fit the bill of reducing travel costs even more:

4 conf home games
4 conf road games
1 P5 road money game
1 FCS home game
1 G5 home game
1 G5 road game

Future P5 road money games already are Miami, FL (2022), Miss St and Florida St (2023), Ohio St (2024).

We do host P5 Mississippi St in 2025 as part of the home and home with them in 2023

And we can cancel the remaining 3 OOC games with Troy in 24, 28 and 29 and replace with possibly UAB and/or La tech

You can almost guarantee that we'll go head to head in Baseball, it's some of the best selling/best attended games for all three schools..

The best news to me is that La Tech and UAB can remove some of those stupid D-III basketball games we put on the schedule.

And if we can keep a La Tech/UAB football matchup going (alternate each year, @LaTech, UAB, LaTech, @UAB.) That's one less OOC game we'd not have to worry about scheduling.

We would welcome continuing "Rivalry in Dixie" with Southern Miss and I hope we continue to play Rice and UNT as well.

If we do alternate with them, I would hope that we would start with La Tech if they are in more need of filling out a schedule at that point.

like uab, there is no legitimate reason for it not to happen on an alternating basis … win/win for all …

fwiw, this southern miss fan will miss you guys as a conference mate until the rest of this bs plays out … I can see it happening once the p4 finally get their dicks in line as the nfl minor league - leaving the rest to fully geo align … remember that convo?!

06-football Marshall has Ohio U in 2025 and 2027.
ECU in 2023 and 2025.

I hope to see those two games return to the schedule again more often in the future.

The USM / La Tech game seems to be a good thing. Hopefully you guys keep it going.

I would like those two G5 games to be UAB and La Tech, unless we can somehow convince Memphis or Tulane to swap places with UAB.

Probably will see 4 home conference, 4 away conference, TWO road money games, 1 FCS home and 1 G5 home. If we cant get the G5 without a return game then TWO FCS. This can change after a few years when we get our ship righted.

Aresco probably advised them that they need to use their airport as much as possible since that was his selling point on the expansion to the public. Thus playing Troy isn't an option, even if Troy has higher actual attendance in a town where the primary visual feature is a water silo.

Airport = Transfer Portal
