You wanna talk about some crazy as hell college football fans, these Bucknuts up here are as crazy if not crazier than any SEC fanbase. They made Kirk Herbstreit move away from his hometown a few years ago because they thought he wasn't being fair to their team in a broadcast. He lives in Nashville now. Anyway I'm the only person I know up here who wears Memphis gear and has a Memphis Tigers flag on my house. It is generally received well and people seem to have a nice view of the city and the school when I talk to them. I did hear a smartass joke from a co-worker once about how he prefers to watch Division 1 football, but he was just kidding with me. Overall I think people have a positive perception of Memphis.
For those that might not know, Kirk, born in Ohio, was a 4 year starter at quarterback for Ohio State in early 90's. 93 he was team MVP. His father played at Ohio State in the 60's and both he and Kirk were team captains. His father was also a assistant for Woody Hayes. Kirk grew up Ohio State.
What I suspect the fans didn't like is that he did not show bias to Ohio State when doing his job. I remember him as a player and when he first got in the both I saw him do an Ohio State game. He would say "we" when referring to Ohio State but that was the only biased he showed. He's always been straight up. I've liked him ever since because I am no Ohio State fan.
Yes Herbie is great. A very sharp football mind and an honest, decent person. Probably my favorite ESPN broadcaster, though Matt Barrie is growing on me lately. Herbie and Fowler calling the Memphis/SMU game in 2019 was my favorite football tv broadcast of all time.

Yeah, and "are you kidding me" on that TD run.
Yep. Thank goodness for YouTube because I am afraid that GameDay and the trip to Dallas are probably the pinnacle of Tiger football. We are gonna be hard pressed to be the top G5 team in future years even if we win a watered down AAC. This won’t be anywhere near the 6th best league

This seems overly pessimistic. The team looked great last week against Navy. Great offensive play-calling, explosive, great defense, everything looked really good. Seems like the coaches and the players have figured things out and everything just started to click. That was the best we have looked as a complete team since 2019. We have a quarterback who is only going to get better and may end up being the best qb of all time. I think Silverfield is learning and growing as a head coach. He is a smart guy and he will continue to improve. I think this football program has a very bright future.

Navy football is a pile of hot garbage. The other good football programs are leaving us behind in this league. Sure, we can still win games and even the AAC in the years ahead, but this conference will be behind the MWC for sure and maybe even the sun belt at times. Adding crap teams like Rice and Charlotte football just water down the league.

I agree that the conference is getting worse, but I still think it is better than MWC and Sunbelt. MWC really sucks this year. Sunbelt is a pretty strong conference this year though with Louisiana and Coastal Carolina.
But regardless of the strength of the conference, Memphis will be THE premier football program in the G5 - who else even comes close? Boise State? They're 3-4 this season. Probably SMU. The American conference champion will be well poised to make a NY6 bowl every single year.

Bowls mean nothing now---they are glorified exhibitions --all that matters is the playoffs----if we don't get in the BIG12 then we are screwed ----UNLESS UNLESS they give the G5 a guaranteed spot in the playoffs ---then our odds of making the playoffs are greater than the COMMUNISTS/OLE PISS/ARKANSUCK/MISTAKE and 90% of the other so-called POWER5 schools----actually a much better chance---depending on which G5 school they rank the highest preseason
If they DON'T give the G5 a guaranteed slot------then most likely the G5 starts their own playoffs .
I think if the BIG12 adds 4 more we get in -----2 more MAYBE MAYBE we are #2 on everybody's list only behind BOISE
Don't we get more money for Bowl participation...? And don't our finest players get to exhibit their skills.
Which brings me to this fact: the reason the NYGiants are doing so badly this year is because they are the only team in the NFC East not to have a Memphis player. they snooze they lose

All that matters is the playoffs? Only 11 teams have been in the playoffs in 7 years and 4 out of the top 5 in the rankings this season have been there before. If you asked a monkey, a monkey would NOT say that only the playoffs are important, but then complain like a sandal wearing communist if tickets go up $5 in an OCS. Do non playoff games NOT matter but it DOES matter if tickets go up $5 to see games that do NOT matter? As I correctly pointed out, an infant monkey is already smarter than you because you can teach it to copy and paste in 2 minutes, and you are in your 70's and still don't know how.
Let's see how you measure up against the monkey with this one.
Why do you care if tickets go up $5 and exclude a sandal wearing communist like you from going to every single game, if the games do NOT matter? Good luck Jethro.

Monkey
- Bowl game more money
- Bowl game count against record
- Bowl game more practice
- Bowl game improve season ranking
- Bowl game high attendance and tv ratings
- Monkey say bowl game good

Well--our finest players have been skipping the bowls because they are MEANINGLESS -----years ago they meant something---nowadays not so much----JMO
They WOULDN'T be skipping playoffs
