That’s what I have been saying all along. UT does not take this game seriously. It starts with coaching. If they do not get you ready, you are not going to win. GET RID OF CANDLE!!! He’s a great recruiter but can’t manage a game.

I haven’t read through all of the posts but excuse my reply if it was mentioned. I watched the game on tv and when Bradley was sacked his head really hit the ground hard. I think he never returned because of concussion protocol. Just guessing. If he has a concussion, I don’t think we’ll see him next week. Maybe we will finally see A new QB????

I think there’s a better chance he didn’t return because he couldn’t throw the ball in the same area code as the receivers.

You see anything in this thread expessing concern who it was we lost too? It was NIU came to us begging to be "rivals," setting up this whole non-rival thing.

NIU is to be looked at as a model of how football should be done at a mid-major without a strong local recruiting platform (as opposed to a Cinci). Niu has a long record of great head football coach hires. No "next man up" lack of effort. I think Carey was your only hire from within ranks and Hammack you're only Alum?

There is no jealousy or feeling of rival here. Congrats on a great job in the front office and on the field.

RE: “Non Rivals” Game Thread
Carey was an easy hire (but unqualified based on resume) because the program had been built by the foundation Novak laid, Jerry Kill improved it with a dynamic offense, and Dave Doeren hit the lotto with having two of our best QBs in history that were Novak and Kill recruits (Chandler Harnish and Jordan Lynch). Carey was handed the keys to a ready-made successful team with Jordan Lynch. Then once it came to big games (bowl games, 2013 MAC Championship, etc.) we would get rocked. Carey could coach a good defense but for a guy known as an offensive coach he could not recruit on offense, develop a QB, or figure out an offense that didn't involve lateral passes, jet sweeps, or QB runs into the middle of the defensive line. Unfortunately, he left the program devoid of talent when he got hired by Temple and Hammock had to rebuild with a young team.

NIU won, but after watching that game, neither program is good.

NIU had the most disciplined OL that we've played this year. Offensively, they threw more sets at us than ND or Colorado St. OK, the triple laterial flee-flicker was MAYBE a bit too much, more of a play you pull at home to bring the fans into the game. They are an excellent program and are a good team.

Splitting reps in practice is stupid at this point. Go with 1 QB. And it needs to be the guy that can run for his life cause the offensive line sucks.

I’d be fine if the coach wants to find someone new to coach to o line starting from now. Heck, auction off coach for a week. It can’t be worse. This offense is unwatchable.

I really believe we have seen the effect of having a 2 QB system this year. CB had it rolling in the ND game, then a switch in the first half hurt the momentum. Later in the ND game DF comes in and makes a great play to put Toledo up. The same thing happened yesterday. The momentum was killed by a couple 3 and outs, with the names switched.

DF has had some meaningful snaps and pulled off 3 TD drives yesterday. Other teams are game planning for him now. It was evident yesterday, but his presence still opens things up. If it weren’t for CB’s accuracy issues, I wouldn’t be saying this, but it appears to be time.

Team better learn how to block on those roll-outs and screens. NIU did this very nicely yesterday.

Is this the room where all the Toledo fans brag about being better than NIU? Asking for a friend….Great game. See y’all next year. Thanks for adding to our young pups confidence!

I thought it was me, I went back to like a 2010 or 2011 thread in the search thingy and it was not me. At least one other Rocket fan. Possibly NIU folk as well. Im not sure if its caught on outside of the message board crowd.

2005 earliest I can find, they're kind of dancing around it but not calling us "non-rivals." They're calling us "rivals" potentially. Took us about ten years to notice their attention.

2005 dog board

Here's some evidence it came before 2012.
Thoughts from our non-rivals

RE: “Non Rivals” Game Thread
The discussion of Toledo being a rival started a long time ago, on the NIU board. It seemed a little more recent that Toledo fans became aware of it and said, "uh, no". That went on for a little while and I thought it was funny so I started saying "nonrivals" on the NIU board. UofToledo or somebody else might have done the same thing on this board, don't know.

other than weeks around the game, you know what doesn't happen on this board? Discussion of NIU.

If NIU lines up against Bama, you know who we root for? NIU

If BG lines up against Bama, you know who we root for? The person putting the third digit on the Bama side of the scoreboard.

There's just nothing to dislike about a husky. They're cute, loyal, don't shed.

Yea, I mean, we don't talk about Toledo either unless we're about to play them, or a Toledo fan posts on our board. I root for them when they're playing non-conference teams, which I guess means I don't consider them rivals either, really.
