Why would you say something like that? I am just saying the $ is the main thing tha matters as that is how the program is ran and what pays for things. Who cares if only 37k actually use their tickets if they are all paid fully? I don't see the reason to always put so much focus on butts in seats. As long as we have 30k a game....i am happy and that is plenty fine for a good crowd/experience. We help people focus on attendance since it is all we talk about as well. Let's find a new subject
While I agree a sellout every single game is not a reasonable expectation nor is it important, attendance is important beyond just ticket sales. Butts in seats buy stuff at the concession stands, eat at the restaurants nearby, and more importantly create an atmosphere. It also signals interest in the program. That all the tickets were sold (they weren't, by the way) is good, but, when so many of those tickets are bought in bulk by companies and even by the city, that is not a great signal. That we couldn't even give them away
Also, the fact that the stadium wasn't absolutely packed for the first game specifically is not good at all. We're not talking three games in, we're talking the very first game out of the gate in the stadium that we managed to get after literally taking to the streets
6 years later we couldn't scrape up enough people to fill all those seats? It is pathetic and an indictment of the fanbase. The concourses and beer rails should've been as full as claimed AND the seats full. The fire marshal should've had to close the gates. Scheduling against Talladega was a mistake but not as big as everyone thinks, and Alabama and Auburn are going to be playing every weekend UAB is so stop using that one

Well I think it was an excellent opening game minus the loss. I expected 33k initially and while walking to the stadium I knew we would exceed that. We have a new home, lets enjoy it instead of continuing this dialog about how many people were in their seats, concessions, at the bar, and in the bathrooms. We'll have plenty of time to get to a sellout in the coming years.
The crowd was subpar for our first game in the brand new stadium, all the hype built up, starting off the season pretty good at 3-1, etc etc etc. It was not a good look. Lots of people on here make so many excuses for UAB when something is subpar and will attack people who call it like it is.. Been going on forever.
i agree, i expected minimal opening seats, but you also have to understand that 37k is still very good. Would I have wanted a sell out...of course. The atmosphere, once our turn over on downs hit never had a chance to impact. It seems everyone including the team died at that moment

So if I take your view, tell me how do we resolve this...quote issue. We had more fans at our game than Georgia Tech's home game 36k (55k stadium), Vanderbilt home game 21k (40k stadium), and all the home games in the AAC played on Saturday. So in my view we're in excellent shape. People should be more upset about the game rather than the attendance. So comparing apples to apples Oct. 2 was a success minus actually winning the game. If we could do it over I would hope we'd schedule Alabama State or Alabama A&M to get what would be a glorified scrimmage and allow the good vibes to continue through out the night.

It takes time to build a hard core fan base that will show up in the rain. Right now we had maybe 20,000 hard core fans. To get our fan base to grow you need a good product and a good fan experience. Before 2014 the product largely sucked and before last week the venue was horrendous. We now have a quality product and an outstanding venue. It’s not going to happen overnight but our fan base is going to grow every year. If you think we are going to magically start averaging 30,000 but in seats a game you fooling yourself. Eventually we will average 30-40 but it takes time
I think the "rain" is being a bit dramatized. It literally rained for about 10 min. There were intermittent light sprinkles throughout the rest of the game.
The rain is just another terrible excuse by folks on this board.
It poured rain for about 10 minutes around 30-45 minutes before the game started. After that, there was nothing more than a very sporadic light drizzle throughout the rest of the game. The "rain" had nothing to do with our crowd, and is a ridiculous excuse.
The “rain” probably did have a lot to do with people staying on the concourse and not in their seats where they could be seen. I know many people around us did exactly that.
We focus too much on attendance and we allow it to be a focus. We are doing well for a G5, and for where we are. We are neither where we want to be or a finished product. But at some point, it’s on us to deliver as the necessary infrastructure comes into reality.
I think it would have been a hard sellout without covid, but all in all I am not disappointed. It was what I expected

We griped about that because there were no camera positions other than those facing the east side of LF, which were always somewhere between empty and completely empty. I was at the game and had no particular appetite to watch a TV replay so I don't know - is that all they're showing on the broadcast from Protective?
Even at 37k I'd bet we exceeded last year's Covid attendance and had more butts in seats than the rest of C-USA.

Casual walk up fans stay home if it’s wet but that was not my point. The point is it takes time to build a fan base and until this year we had serious issues limiting growing it

You were very outspoken in saying that this would be the best UAB team ever. I'm not trying to troll you, but I'd like to know - how disappointed are you with the shellacking we got on Saturday? I'm pretty bummed with the actual football results. The stadium and the atmosphere around the game were spectacular, but I feel like the team has become very stale, predictable, and monotonous. When are we going to make the necessary changes to really take the next step? Why does it seem like we keep seeing the same thing over and over again and no one is held accountable? Why does everyone seem to be cool with beating cupcakes, racking up penalties, and not doing much else? I feel like we should be aspiring for more at this point. You can say that we are, but what tangible evidence do you have that we are making the changes necessary to keep moving forward as a program?
Sorry for the semi-rant, but you were very outspoken in how good you thought this team would be. We haven't lived up to that. I wanted to get your view on things where they stand now after getting our butt kicked at home by what most people would've said would be a peer school on the field..

We've played 5 games and lost 2 of them. So the attendance wasn't what some hope for but we have 4 more shots at it this season...how about that?
