Central Oklahoma

I could see West Texas A&M also will make an announcement.
West Florida is on the move. They are very similar to Florida Atlantic. I can see them in FBS in the not-so-distant future.
Another D2 that would be a good addition to D1 would be Delta State.
How are West Florida and FAU similar?
# of students
12,850 - West Florida
30,808 - Florida Atlantic
Metro population
498,000 - Pensacola
6,166,000 - Boca Raton
Population and number of students aside, I believe they can, much like FAU did, fast track a move to d1 more than any other d2 school in Florida, plus they are in an awesome destination city.
While I agree UWF and Delta State would make good d1 candidates, this would leave Valdosta State and UWG as megalodons in a pond of minnows.

Which is why I think Valdosta State (with some good funding) has the potential to be better than Kennesaw State or even Georgia State and Georgia Southern. I mean, Valdosta as a D2 team kicked Savannah State's ass like a strong 1-A FBS school would. I mean, is there a different feel now than this take 8 years ago?

The program is as strong as ever despite going through 3 coaches since 2012.
I've seen reports that the ASUN is interested in VSU,
I just have a feeling that the administration is likely still reluctant, just because none of our other sports are really competitive even in D2.
And I was at the stadium for the beatdown of SSU, it was fantastic.
Fingers crossed the administration comes to their senses and takes up the ASUN on an offer.

As an alum, I would love to move to the OVC. Our facilities are on par if not upper end of the conference members. Enrollment size is comparable. In state rivalry with SEMO. I really would enjoy this.
Rumors on campus were the president wanted D1. Hence the football stadium renovations. However, he has since left and I have no idea if that remains true.
Since they were mentioned on this board, I say we speak it into existence and talk about them being a serious candidate. I am tired of playing almost all conference games in essentially 3 states.
It was me. I went to the D-II board a couple days ago to read what you guys were hearing. I couldn't post because I forgot my password. Tell Brandon(dude that runs it, NWMSU guy) I said hi.

The stadium is at most a 15 minute walk from campus (if you're at the opposite side)... it's a block down. The problem is that Valdosta High School owns it and has no intention of selling it because of the tradition it holds and alumni resistance from building a new one at the new hs they just built.
I don't even think VSU has the land to build one closer to campus.

I may just be misinformed. The only info I can find on an owner says that VSU and VHS are both tenants. I assumed VHS owned it because all of the permanent branding and iconography throughout the stadium is that of VHS, and VHS also has a museum located in the stadium.

That's almost double the current size, and it looks like there is available land close by to that which they could purchase to further expand if needed. Contrast to FBS Georgia State that sits on 110 acres, 400 wooded acres that makes up Georgia Tech, Georgia that sits on 762 acres, and 900 acres that comprises Georgia Southern.

What's interesting is I actually remember seeing this area being cleared out about a year ago.
I wish I had better connections with the university to get a scoop on potential projects

Plenty of room for an on-campus stadium. Hopefully the changing environment in D1 FBS will be the spark these other schools need to consider that move.
Most successful and financially able FCS schools always held back because of transfer rules and never being able to contend for a national title. An expanded playoff starts to make the FBS postseason closer to what the FCS has.

You are correct. I graduated from VHS and can confirm that Bazemore Hyder Stadium is owned by VHS. It would be perfect for VSU, but honestly...high school football drives the bus in Valdosta.

Are you guys going to get an on campus stadium? I heard that's what was stopping Valdosta St. from moving up.

But is the no stadium of your own an actual problem for moving up or not?
Update: VSU apparently owns 140 acres of land west of campus (the entire campus atm is 168 acres)

VSU also owns a small north campus.

RE: D2 Schools As Candidates To Become D1
As I’ve mentioned several times over the years, one of my good friends and former neighbors is closely related to the VSU AD (and also works for VSU himself). There is zero intention from the university to move up to D1. Personally I would love to see it, but I ask him every time we see eachother and the answer is always the same.
