2 part expansion Big 12
Saturday article talking to TT AD:
https://kkam.com/texas-tech-athletic-dir...onference/
"Hocutt talked with Texas Tech announcers Brian Jensen and John Harris. In response to a question from Harris, Hocutt said that Houston, University of Central Florida, Cincinnati and BYU are "legitimate possibilities for expansion." Hocutt also said there were some additional "unnamed schools" who were possibilities too. Hocutt included in his comments that football success is the "number one" factor for Big 12 expansion....
Hocutt told the duo that he sees conference realignment being an "eight to 10-year process" for the Big 12. A second set of schools could be invited to the Big 12 Conference once the exits of Texas and Oklahoma, and the integration of the first set of new schools, is completed."

RE: 2 part expansion Big 12
Not happening. I have seen quotes from B12 officials saying 12 is it. I could see 14 happening if there is some sort of sea change in how TV content is consumed - which hey could happen - but we will be at 12 for 10 or more years - and never to 16
The only two schools that make sense are Co State, Memphis and USF

So based on Hocutt quotes the new Big12 main goal is going beyond 12 or could they simply know they’re going to lose a few more programs and going to say 14 - 16 now will soften the big12’s blow later on.

Memphis and Boise State.
But Hocutt is an AD and the decision cut those two out because the President of Iowa State and the Chancellor of Kansas are the gatekeepers who decide who gets to be voted on. Academics matter to those CEOs 100x more than to an AD.
As Frank the Tank puts it think like a University President and not like An Athletic Director.

I say USF has the slight edge over Memphis. Location and academics. Unless KU leaves, I’ll continue to believe that. Unfortunately there is no impetus to add them. For 14, it could be anyone out of Memphis CSU SMU. Don’t see another name in the mix aside from those. Boise St unlikely.

Personally, I could see 4 of those 3 joining, or even possibly not both.

Exactly, what University President wants their school grouped with 2 pseudo community colleges?

RE: 2 part expansion Big 12
This only turns into an 8-10 year process if the ACC gets raided in the 30s and then backfill with members from the expanded Big 12.
If that were to happen, the hottest AAC programs at the time (Memphis?, USF?) will go to the Big 12. I never imagine the Big 12 being bigger than 12 again.

RE: 2 part expansion Big 12
Can anyone explain what the bleep is going on?
It sounds like this AD threw everyone into a tizzy because he claimed that the Big is going to take4 more teams, for a total of eight after UT and OU leave, and then he said it could take eight to 10 years.
It seems like somewhat of a Tower of Babel type of situation, in which nobody knows what's going on?

Well it’s the Big 12-2-2+4+maybe 2 so numbers are kind of a moving target for them

I think they want to neuter MWC and AAC of their best programs it sounded like it. If this ad sees that Boise State's a tv draw? Than there it is. Colorado State. San Diego state, SMU, Tulsa, Tulane, Rice, Air Force and Temple does not have the metrics for tv ratings to join.

RE: 2 part expansion Big 12
I think that it is a 3 way battle for the two spots. Houston, Cinci, and UCF have spent 100's of Millions each to ensure that their facilities, program resources, and coaching staffs look P5. UCF and Houston built new on Campus stadiums, Cincinnati spent about the same amount bringing their OCS and football practice facilities up to par. All three have done the same with their basketball facilities. In a sense, they were Big XII ready.
Legit Candidates
Memphis: Good Football, great basketball, mediocre academics. Plays both major sports off campus in rented facilities. Great fit with Cincinnati and Houston.
USF: Mediocre Football, bad basketball, good academics. Plays football off campus at the Bucs stadium. Perfect partner for UCF.
Colorado State: Poor Football, mediocre basketball, excellent academics. Great cultural fit and partner for BYU. Beautiful new OCS, dumpy basketball arena.
Of those three, whichever two get their football programs and sports facilities up to a a P5 level first, get the call. Memphis should be the most logical choice but my money is on USF and Colorado State. USF has a spot on campus where they plan to build an OCS and seeing UCF leave them behind will light a fire to fix football. Colorado State has the academics and the best profile fit. If they can get their arena situation fixed along with fielding a football team that regularly competes for MWC conference crowns, there in.
As for Memphis, I just think they are to entrenched and comfortable with their facility situation. The problem with that is iwhen you couple it with their academic profile it screams "City State U" to the Big XII Presidents and that is something they loathe. Do any other schools in the P5 play all of their revenue sports off campus?

RE: 2 part expansion Big 12
Colorado St. isn't getting any mentions. I thought they might because of the fit, the alumni in the state and the potential, but the Big 12 isn't settling for potential. Apparently they just don't generate any TV audience. They have historically been pretty bad in football with just a few high spots. From 94-00 they were ranked 3 times in the final poll, but never before or since.
