TCU insider @JClarkHFB247 has reported that TCU, Baylor, and Texas Tech have already reached out to the PAC-12.

One source told him “The Big 12 is going to blow up man”

I don’t think we can just assume that the old prejudices exist anymore. Before this week people were saying OU and Texas would never join the SEC because TAMU and Ok State would block it. That turned out to be a lie. If I’m the Pac-12 a foothold in recruiting grounds like Texas and a chance to play more games earlier in the day so that the East Coast can watch them looks real enticing. Their new commish needs to do something to make them more relevant. Worries about academics go out the window. Same goes for WVU, the ACC can’t complain about their academics when they have a party school like FSU as one of their centerpieces. WVU strengthens their football and basketball which is all that matters right now.

Exactly like i said, if you're one of the teams left in the Big 12 if you're smart you're trying to find a P4 home right now... not sit and wait to see which AAC teams get added.

If the PAC12 takes a group to get into the Texas TV market it makes sense to take Texas Tech and Houston. Add OSU and you have a triangle filled with a lot of people to expand your network to.

PAC12+B8 = WTF20

Quote:Reaching out to the Pac-12 about a potential 20-school merger was discussed during Thursday’s Big 12 leadership call. Such a move seems to be a more favorable alternative for the Big 12 than bringing in new members, which might involve raiding the American Athletic Conference, to lift its membership back into double digits.

“Bringing in a Cincinnati and UCF doesn’t bring any eyeballs,” the AD said.

A second league AD said, “There is no combination of Group of 5 members we can add that will garner our same TV deal, but it’s all on the table right now,” then added, “I don’t think (Texas) A&M has been very successful in blocking this.”

Eliminating one of the P-leagues would opens up a second G5 auto into the CFP12

We need to reach out to Marshall and USM ASAP.

Marshall and USM are my first two picks as well. USM will be winning a lot of football games in the next few years with Will Hall as coach.

Even if the B12 survives, a CFP12 with 6 autobids going to the top 6 conference champions I think those last two spots between the B12, AAC, MWC, SBC it's extremely important to have a strong champion. Adding two strong programs has to be considered by the conference admins and members. Even if it means splitting the yearly $10 million CFP payout 12 ways. A loss of $166k a year is nothing if the conference gets an extra $10-15 million dollar shot in the arm every couple years from a CFP12 bid.

Why would those schools left in the Big 12 do that when they could soak up exit fees and keep the autobids?

Because if you're Oklahoma State or Texas Tech, do you want to be in a conference with USC/Oregon/Arizona or Cincy/Houston?
There is still a HUGE bias by P5 / State Flagships against the rest of the universe. This is why Houston/Memphis/UCF were not invited to the B12 to begin with. There is still a lot of hang wringing. They will not backfill from the AAC and MWC unless they have no choice because they were left behind and cannot themselves get into another conference

Exactly. Option one for the remaining Big 12 schools will be to find a new home in either the B1G, PAC, or ACC.

If only the ink was on the contracts for that. Then yes, it would conveniently open up a spot. If it was already in place I think it strengthens Notre Dame's resolve to stay independent because now an additional spot is there every year.

That article explains that there is no legal ties. Has nothing to do with political pressure.

It says Oklahoma will be in the SEC without Oklahoma St. The Governor can restrict funds to OU but he may also be a huge OU fan and do nothing. The only way OU and Texas don't move to the SEC is if they don't get enough votes by the SEC schools. The Big 12 is doomed.

Oklahoma governor, Kevin Stitt, is a Oklahoma State grad. I do not believe he will exactly give the Sooners a seal of approval to jump ship to the SEC without a fight.

Interesting discussion. It seems to me that all of these potential scenarios begin with the basic assumption that the NCAA football playoff system will continue as in recent years and not grow to something akin to the March Madness tournament. (Can we call it December Derangement?) If, on the other hand, the tournament draw grows large enough, it seems the "Power" conferences will lose much of their exclusivity and elite stature. Outsiders like Cincinnati, Memphis, Houston and App State will not so often be on the outside looking in, and we can finally get down to the business of crowning a true national champion.

Doubt it. The rest of the Big 12 will fill the other P5 confidence. The Big 12 will be gone.

Outside of OU, Texas and likely Kansas who is in demand? ACC has passed on WVU at least twice.

Texas Tech, Baylor and TCU just what the Pac12 needs more Washington States and Oregon States.

Reports are Kansas has called the B1G about joining.

If Kansas goes, that takes the B1G to 15, they’d probably want another to get to 16.

I’ve even heard rumors of the B1G calling Missouri to get them from the SEC.
