I, for one, distinctly remember all the GCU posters stating that Drew would sign all 4 and 5 star recruits...

He did sign Jayden Stone last summer, who was a 4 star recruit, and that was one of his first signings. However, I didn't have the expectation that he was going to come in and sign only 4 and 5 star recruits. Dan only got one and that was towards the end of his tenure when he had the most job security (lol). Most 4 and 5 star guys aren't going to sign with a brand new coach at a mid-major level. However, if he does start winning a few championships, I have the expectation that he does start signing guys of that caliber.

I feel like programs at our level can sign 1 or 2 4 star* talents in a given year. I just don’t see 5 star talents coming to the WAC, unfortunately.

* 4 star talent that comes to the WAC are probably going to be transfers from bigger programs where they aren’t happy for one reason or another. I’d say signing a 4 star out of HS would be a big get.

GO AGGIES!!!

Jalen Blackmon and Kobe Knox are both 3-star signees. And as you said Jayden Stone was a 4-star prospect according to ESPN.

Both Knox and Blackmon have strong NBA ties too. I believe Blackmon's dad played in the NBA and Knox is the younger brother of Kevin Knox, who plays for the New York Knicks and went to school at Kentucky.

One area where I think GCU has a really good coach is Drew appears to be really good at developing/refining a player's offensive skillset. I was very impressed with the growth of Stone (before his injury) and McMillian during the course of the season. Both those players along with Blacksher are going to be difficult to stop in the coming years. Right I'm curious if any of GCU's seniors will return (Frayer RIP). And, who will Drew will bring in to replace Midtgaard and Lever if those two move on. Zdor and McGlothan are good post players but much easier to defend.

4-Star on ESPN but 3-Star on 24/7 recruiting and rivals.

NMSU did sign Herb Pope when he was a five-star recruit. He dropped to four-star after he signed with NMSU. Troy Gillenwater also signed with NMSU out of HS. He was a top 100 four-star recruit.

Sim Bhullar was also a top 100 4-star recruit. It doesn't happen too often but NMSU signs a top 100 player periodically. However on most occasions, 4-star players usually transfer to NMSU as a second or third stop.

True! Elijah Ingram also a transfer to NMSU in 2004 was a five-star recruit back in 2002

Yup, Elijah Ingram transferred to NMSU from St. John's; and If I am correct, he was highest ranked HS player to ever play at NMSU. He was #24 on the 2002 ESPN Top 100 (link below). There are some impressive names on that list. BTW, Herb Pope was #32 on the 2007 ESPN Top 100; Sim Bhullar was #82 in the 2011 ESPN Top 100. And, AJ Harris transferred to NMSU from Ohio State as #80 in the 2015 ESPN Top 100.

This is true. I will say that those signings happened in the old WAC when Nevada, Utah State, Fresno and Boise State were all here. Not the new WAC without those teams. It's going to take some time to build the rep of the conference back to those levels.

That said, I think we've started with GCU, UVU, CBU and now with ACU and SFA joining. There are others in the conference that could rise up too, which is what has me excited for the WAC. With those 5, and assuming NMSU stays at the same level, there is some potential to get this conference back to where it was previously and fairly quickly too. What we need are OOC wins against Quad1 and Quad2 teams from the top half of the conference. There are at least 4, if not 5 or 6 that have already proven they can do it. We just all need to do it in the same season, repeatedly.

GO AGGIES!!!!

Fact: This season, UTRGV has not signed any recruits with less than four stars. Not many WAC teams can say that.

Two former 4 stars in two days commit to GCU. Both have dealt with injuries and limited playing time.

Former ASU Top 100 Forward
Taeshon Cherry

Former Louisville Top 100 Center
Aidan Igiehon

Yes, but the potential is there. As much as I hate to admit it, Drew appears more willing to develop his young talent than what we (Aggie fans) are seeing from Jans currently. Any word on whether any of your seniors are returning for another season?

Sean Miller Moore is the only one returning. I know Lever recently signed with an agent. Midgard is getting married and probably did enough to get a nice pro deal overseas.

Yes, but the potential is there. As much as I hate to admit it, Drew appears more willing to develop his young talent than Jans what we are currently seeing at NMSU. Any word on whether any of your seniors are returning for another season?
Sean Miller Moore is the only one returning. I know Lever recently signed with an agent. Midgard is getting married and probably did enough to get a nice pro deal overseas.

Mikey Dixon?

I don't think so. I think anyone that participated in senior night is not returning. SMM did not participate and said he's coming back. I haven't heard anything concrete yet on mikey though. My bet is that he's moving on.

He made a post yesterday with the hashtag #3out, so I'm going to say that he isn't coming back.
