UNT could afford baseball. North Texas has to be one of the few athletic departments in C-USA that has not implemented pay cuts, and is still running a budget surplus. Every athletic department chooses how they wish to spend their money. We just choose to use that money in other ways, like bigger contracts for McCasland.

I agree with this. I was kinda hoping someone else would pick him up. McCasland is a very good coach. I'm shocked that no one else pursued him.
I hear there was interest from other programs. I guess he could have strung out the contract negotiations and bought time to see if a more lucrative offer materialized. I think it says a lot about him that he didn't take that path. I trust him to find the right pieces and once again keep the Mean Green contending among the better teams next season.

I think it depends on where you live/grew up within the state. Baseball, in my experience, is a bigger deal in rural areas and/or people from well to-do suburbs that aren't super diverse.
Although, I will say that baseball is pretty popular among Mexicans from northern parts of the country, from which a lot of populations in West Texas originate and/or still have relatives living there. So, it wouldn't surprise me if baseball is pretty big out there.

And let's face it...people under 35 (in general) just don't care about baseball like previous generations. I think the MLB has really done a terrible job of marketing the sport, in addition to not adapting the game to be more enjoyable.
For example, ask a random person who the current face of baseball is. 8-9 out of 10 people can't answer that. Ask the same question for the NFL, NBA...hell, GOLF! It's a different story.

Yep. We can't breath yet. McCasland is still a potential candidate at OU and Texas. Although, I doubt he is the top candidate at either place.
Now, there is also the Chris Beard to Texas rumors. If he was to go to Texas, McCasland would probably be the favorite to go to Texas Tech. The cupboard is not exactly stacked for McCasland at NT next season, even though I have faith that he will still field a competitive team. Now might be a good chance for Grant to move on, if that is his eventual goal. Please stay Grant !

I want all of CUSA's top coaches to stay put. This conference needs to continue to improve, for all our benefit.

According to my numbers, Terry is making $530,999 after his COVID pay reduction implemented by UTEP. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm trying to keep accurate data.
This year he took a 200k pay cut in exchange for an extra year on the contract. Next year he's back to 730k for the next 3 years.

Lots of concern right now. Also becoming more concerned about the Oklahoma job.

It's the unfortunate cost of success. Our AD has said many times that if other programs aren't trying to take your guys then maybe you have the wrong guys.

Is there a clause in his contract about scheduling with the program that poaches him? VCU made that a standard clause in their contracts and they got home-and-homes from Texas, LSU, Alabama and Oklahoma out of it. Surprised more programs don't go that route.

Of course UNT can afford Baseball. That's why it was a foolish thing for the other UNT fan say. He was using Title IX as an excuse for not having baseball. Puleeze!
And what's with the patting yourself on the back about avoiding "paycuts"? What a weird thing to say. I'm not aware of any paycuts at Tech, and we can afford to play baseball.

Starting up a new program would be MUCH more expensive than maintaining a current program. Besides, who cares if we have baseball team or not. I'd think you would prefer not to have the additional competition.

Baseball is very popular in El Paso. I've heard stories about how well supported the old college team we had, diablos and now the chihuahuas.
We're probably never going to add baseball at UTEP.

CUSA highest ranked team this year is a BASEBALL!
Tech #17
Baseball is popular among hispanics and whites, and becoming more popular among black kids.
And news flash you don’t have to be gifted with a size to play baseball!
Look at the success UTA and Dallas Baptist has had in Baseball.
That’s actually a sport UNT could excel at.
Deb is right UNT needs to follow through on their commitment to start a baseball team. I know for fact their previous AD and Prez told other CUSA schools that UNT was going to start a baseball team.
Their excuse is “that was the former AD” well too bad. You make a commitment you follow through UNT

LA Tech will see your #8 soccer ranking and raise you a #6 ranking in women's bowling. We're "nationally ranked in the Top 10, bowling, and have a chance to be the national champions"- that's what everyone said they wanted to be!
