We win this convincingly will begin our crescendo that we have so desperately been waiting for.....Memphis needs the respect moniker, as a program to be reckoned with....The respect first comes from coaches and games played on the level of play that was displayed today.....Keep this up, and we will have ARRIVED.....Then all we will have to 03-hissyfit about is seeding in the Big Dance

Last time we met up with Howland...we enjoyed the outcome.
He did not enjoy the beatdown.

He did not enjoy the beatdown.

exactly, he is a good coach and will no doubt remember that

my favorite Calipari take when he was at Memphis...

the Final Four presser in San Antonio, the narrative was that Howland will outcoach Calipari...

Media Question to Calipari -

"Coach Cal, how do you respond to everybody saying this will be a coaching mismatch?"

Calipari - "Oh, I think Ben is a great coach. What are you guys talking about?"

UCLA had 2 NBA All-Stars and 2 other guys with long NBA careers. With that lineup he decided to play slow...and he put Collison on Rose.

Big game for Moo for next year too

They have some young players. For both teams getting four extra games should really help for next season

Was the last time we played the Cows in the 08 tourney? Same tourney we played Howland?

UCLA had 2 NBA All-Stars and 2 other guys with long NBA careers. With that lineup he decided to play slow...and he put Collison on Rose.

They attacked Collison wherever he was on the floor...

They even tried to hide Collison on Anderson and Anderson attacked him...

The biggest mistake Howland made in that game was putting Collison back in the game after he had four fouls...They matched up much better with him on the bench

Westbrook on Rose
MbahMoute on CDR

RE: NIT CHAMPIONSHIP--MEMPHIS -4 VS Mississippi State
UCLA probably had the most talented team in the country that year.

Kevin Love (a future borderline NBA HOFer)
Russell Westbrook (a future slam dunk NBA HOFer and league MVP)
Darren Collison (long time NBA starter)
Josh Shipp (played in the league)
Mbah Amoute (played in the league)

The only one of those who were a freshman was Love, who was a super duper 5 star can't miss one and done. Westbrook was a sophomore.

I would argue the reason we killed them was because of Howland. Kind of like the old saying... the only man who could stop Michael Jordan was Dean Smith.

They are a mediocre SEC team. We already lost to one of those (Auburn) in our only P-5 game this year.

No reason we shouldn't beat MSU if we think we are a team that should have received an at large to the real Tournament.

In terms of raw talent, I'd say UCLA was. As a team (talent and chemistry) I'd say it was us or the team that actually won the Championship, Kansas.
