You know, there was a quote in one of the articles about that game that really stuck with me. In the presser, Brannen made some sort of comment about how "he's been told not to talk about this injury" or something similar. I've been wondering if that was nothing more than a passive aggressive jab.

I cannot think of a physical injury where you walk off the court under your own power with no visible malady and return in to the bench in the second half and then under 24 hours later start and play a game.
Something smells about the situation. Perhaps he had diarrhea?

I wonder if maybe it was something intestinal that you wouldn't want to have an emergency flare up while you were on the court on national tv. It's also something one probably would prefer not to discuss with the press. I'm moving on as we've got bigger issues...

Yet another mystery from behind the iron curtain that is our BB team.
I nearly shat myself when he walked out there sunday. I was sure he'd snapped his achilles.

Iron curtain is accurate. What a mess.

One thing I refuse to do is blame Keith Williams for this year's problems. He's been a trooper the whole way.
Sure, he's not the player we all hoped he was last year. But he's handled this year's repeated frustrations with grace and poise. He's a tough man and a true Bearcat.

You are pretty much spot on. In light of the apparent circus going on he is not the clown.
If we owe Brannen $7.5 million try negotiating an amicable divorce with us paying him of $1 -1.5 million a year. Hell he was making $300,000 at NKU so pay him $300,000 a year so pay him $400,000 for the next 25 year to compensate for present value. He goes and gets a new low level or assistant job and lives well.
This situation cannot be good for either party.

I’ve heard the buyout is $4.5 million on the $6 million left on the deal.
UC Basketball is going to lose that much on lost donations, lost ticket sales, lost concessions & parking revenue and lost sponsorship and ad revenue...not to mention lost NCAA Tournament credits going forward.

While I'm not ruling out a termination in the coming hours or days, it's impossible to suggest that failure to do so would fully offset the $4.5 million termination expenditure.
Yes, there may be some fan attrition next season in that case. But it takes a lot of soft pretzels, popcorn, and tickets sales to offset an expenditure such as that. There is longstanding corporate ownership of boxes, suites, and large blocks of tickets that companies don't give up during such coaching disruptions. And there are season ticket holders, still there, who endured both Huggins' departure and Mick's dismal early years.

Just like everything else, the buyout is negotiable. Is not being able to fill the scholarships a dereliction of duty? But seriously, offer to pay him the full value over the course of 10 years and be done with it. If season tickets were for sale this season instead of being rolled over, how many people do you think re-up?

His contract stipulates that should he be terminated he is owed 75% of his remaining salary...so yeah, it would be just about $4.5M.

No matter how much KW could have hated CJB I find it really hard to believe he would sit out the second half of a game where his tournament hopes/Senior season were on the line. I just don't see it.

Eric Martin did it when he got mad at Huggs.

Before my time but that's funny. How did Huggs respond.

Keith clearly had something going on IMO. He winced right before walking off the court towards the locker room. If he was pissed at coach and quitting he wouldn't have come back out to sit on the bench, and wouldn't have been in tears. I'm curious as is everyone, but it could have been something internal, he could have been dealing with vertigo, etc. I can't imagine that after a ho hum play he decided that he was quitting, and then changed his mind the next morning.

Huggs addressed it in his post game show. He complimented Martin for his intensity and desire and said that it wasn’t a big deal. Perfect answer.

Martin ripped off his jersey and stormed into the locker room just before half tine. He was back on the bench for the second half but I can't remember if he played or not.

It be nice if they worked out some sort of deferred buyout. Maybe like $1 million a year for 6 years so he gets more money, but has to wait for it. That might help with a buyout or maybe some donors want him out so bad they will pony up the cash.
