Their top player, Zep Jasper, already entered the portal a few days ago. I expect many more to follow suit.

Is this a CAA transfers thread or are y'all going to list every player to enter the portal?

CAA transfers.

But, I've been peppering in high academics kids, some local kids, or kids with possible 6 degrees of separation from our coaches.

Coach Kemp and 6’3 Dale Bonner, a rising RS JR who just entered the transfer portal from Fairmont St (D2), are now following each other. Bonner was named first team all MEC for the second year in a row, averaging 20.2 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 4.6 assists a game. Coaches from almost twenty different D1 programs started following him within four hours of his announcement to transfer. Bonner is originally from Shaker Heights, OH.

CAA MBB Transfers 2021
One time Tribe target Gabe Madsen from Cincinnati has entered the portal

If I remember correctly, he is from the same town as coach Fischer in Minnesota. He and his brother and family visited here in high school. Not sure if it matters, but Coach Kemp, Luke, Connor, and Julian Lewis are Instagram friends with Gabe.

Curious if his twin brother Mason follows into the portal. Good chance he stays though, he was getting a good amount of minutes for a freshman.

I find it interesting that Gabe was the higher regarded and higher recruited twin in high school. Mason is blossoming at Cincinnati and Gabe barely saw the floor. It's all about fit, I suppose.

CAA transfers.

Guess we should have seen this coming, but linked article reads as if NCAA seriously considering removing any requirement to sit out a semester as a precursor for a player transferring. Mantra of "it's good for the players" is the underpinning. Wonder if any thought about what's good for the colleges and fans goes into the decision? Maybe the ticket sales ad campaigns will be along the lines of "our mercenaries are really shaping up nicely for the coming season, buy your tickets while they're still available."

Of course the other thing that comes to mind is that NCAA regs are designed to be modified by Power 5 inputs (e.g. transfers), and set in stone when it comes to mid-major issues (auto-bids).

You will see graduation rates go down if this happens.

Should it occur you may also see "vagabond" players transferring yearly and end up playing at three + colleges.

Bubba, you will see players become mercenaries. They are still going to need to have enough credits to play, but that won't matter at most schools. My fear is that they never come close to graduating and they are left with no education and no diploma.

The other thing that will happen often are mass transfers when coaches leave.

If I understand correctly, the new rules would allow a player to only transfer once without penalty.

Perhaps naïve on my part, but all the more reason why we should continue to recruit true student athletes who, along with their parents, want EVERYTHING W&M offers.

RE: CAA MBB Transfers 2021
I think allowing 1 transfer penalty free is a good thing for students. I agree someone playing at a new college every year likely isn't going to graduate, but letting players transfer once seems reasonable. I had plenty of friends at W&M who transferred in from other colleges, we don't hold it against non-athletes when they transfer. And if coaches are allowed to move without penalty (Like our friend Marion who has coached at 10 schools in 11 years), I think athletes should get one freebie too.

The tickets or the mercenaries?

Right. You have 18 year olds making a decision about their collegiate career based on whatever a coach sells them, regardless of what happens when they get to school. This gives players a little leverage back, so if they aren't getting used right or are sold a bill of goods by low character coaches, they can do something about it without losing one of their only playing years. This rule means that coaches have to be accountable also. Go to Alabama and then get over-recruited after your freshman year? Come on over to ODU and be a star. Coach said you'd be playing 3 and D and then stuck you in the low post? Find a place that lets you be you. Sign on with a team and find out you don't like any of the players? Find a place you can be part of the team.
