College Of Faith Arkansas, Sherwyn Thoms Lied In His Application To The State
Shady College Football Team For Bodybag Games
Quote:The first step was for Thomas to write to the Arkansas Department of Higher Education and request a religious exemption from licensing requirements. A copy of his 2012 application, obtained by Contently.org, states that the College of Faith is “an online, four-year, coeducational, private Christian college . . . balancing biblical truth with education.” The school, he stated, was committed to recruiting “quality educators.” He put down Total Change of Heart Ministries as the parent organization and its location as Shepherd Tech’s old address.
Quote:His own role would be as president and Bible professor, and Thomas listed himself as having an “MS in Education,” a false claim. Thomas, who graduated from Mississippi Valley in 1993 and cites Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville on his LinkedIn page, never obtained a graduate degree. In his filing, he identified only one other teacher for the college: Sammie L. Brookins.
His submission, however, describes a fully realized curriculum for those seeking degrees in ministry or biblical studies, with course offerings such as “Understanding the New Testament,” a three-credit class for freshmen that “examines major themes, broad divisions, key scriptures, major personalities, and the structure and context of each book.” Sophomores would be offered options such as “Biblical History of Israel” and “Fundamentals of Biblical Exegesis.”
I think he used these kids to get quick money from NAIA and NCAA schools. One of the victims was Valparaiso State. This is one of the reasons why NAIA, NCAA. NCCAA and others banned them from being counted as a game. The school in Arkansas closed downed permantly. I just can't find if he was arrested for falsifying an application or not. This could be why the College of Faith-Charlotte and University of Faith in Florida distanced themselves since they did not falsified their applications to their states. They are now renamed as a merger with Community Christian College in California. I wonder how many more schools out there like this that did what Thomas did? And which ones beacme a member of the NAIA, NCAA, NCCAA, NJCAA and USCAA?

This was such a fascinating story.
But honestly I would've been more surprised had they not lied to the state at some point

This is an old story and that article has been on this board before—why the need to give it a new thread?

This article was not posted on here before. It was a SBNation and a USAToday article that never mentioned that part of his lying on his application. Those writers were sloppy for not digging deeper in this guy's past. So, Thomas did something illegal was not reported here before. This is something new since doing a Google search? It shows that the school is permantly closed which could mean the state closed the school down, and that Thomas could be under legal troubles for running a fake school. We may have others out their floating right now that could be as shady as College of Faith was.

One of the victims was Valparaiso State? He must have conned the State right out of them because I've only heard of the private Valparaiso.
