RE: New 2021 Commits
I trust the coaches to evaluate, sign and develop the athletes that will make the team successful. Alabama state residency is not required. I don’t place a lot of credibility on “star” ranking. Let them prove it on the field.

agree a five star is a five or a 4 most of the time ,,,,,it is the 1 % of the player ,,,the rest are a bunch of 3 ,,,,,,,and they need to get better went to go to college

Same here. I’m not sure what the obsession of having in state players is. I’m sure Clark tried to recruit some of those guys, but if they don’t want to come to UAB, so be it.

The ranking of this recruiting class is disappointing but it doesn't mean these new recruits will suck.

We, of all teams, don’t need to concern ourselves with ratings or “stars”. Some of the biggest recruits (rating wise) that we’ve gotten under Coach Clark have ultimately been outperformed by others on the roster from what I have seen.

I’m interested in height, weight, speed and aggression. Smarts would be nice. There are so many kids with great size and speed, it really comes down to coaching them up. That part is why I trust Coach Clark to pick them

I never said they did. Neither did BlazinBham. Like I said before, we've been recruiting well enough to win CUSA, that is indisputable. The flip side is we haven't performed well against the decent or better OOC opponents we've faced.
I thought spending many 10's of $millions on a practice facility and stadium would have yielded more positive recruiting results. So far it hasn't and that is what is disappointing. Hopefully a couple of seasons in Protective will at least get us in the Top 100.

I think COVID has had some affect as recruits can't visit. Its one thing to say we have these great facilities, a new stadium, great coaches, great atmosphere, etc, but another to actually see it. The Srs that are staying are all excited to hang around UAB for another year and play in the new stadium - they have seen all these things that recruits have only been told about.

It has...most of our signees are 3 star guys. Do you not remember the days of having signing classes with NO 3 star guys. No we don't have any 5 star players, but are we really expecting 5 star players to go to CUSA?? This is indictment on CUSA, not UAB

I think this plays a big role. These kids are 18-19 years old. For the in state kids the first time they probably ever heard of UAB was when we shut down. I know in Huntsville they had relatively extensive coverage of that misadventure but about a 15sec blurb about the return. If you can't visit and see the physical changes on campus it's a little hard to imagine what we've done.

Doing it that way dropped us from #116 to #140. A lot teams that had only 4-5 commitments, had a higher rating than UAB's (81.49). Our good transfers levels the playing field though.

I remember. Nationally our classes were ranked about where they are now, sub 100. Look how many three stars are on all the CUSA recruiting classes. Don't look at the stars, look at the numerical score and where we rank relative to our peers.
Troy is down right now and they still somehow kick our ass in-state. It may not bother some folks that teams like WKU, Arkansas State, Troy, USM, and Ga State sign higher ranked Alabama players but it doesn't set well with me. With all the winning and $ we've spent, I just don't get it.

Is it possible that highly rated instate Alabama high school players might not rate that highly compared to top 10 players from more populous states such as Ga, Fla, TX, CA ? Just a thought.

RE: New 2021 Commits
This isn't a bad class just not what I hoped for. I'm guessing we'll add some juco's that need to pass the spring semester before they sign. Hopefully a MLB. I also hope we pick up a transfer or juco QB to throw in the mix.
I just keep waiting and hoping for that break through class. The Malachi Bennett commitment was treated like a big break through but then it fell apart. I think it's important that we compete and win recruiting battles in our home state against neighboring G5 programs. Doesn't hurt my feelings if you disagree.

It’s going to be hard to get a quality Juco QB when our current QB has two years of eligibility left and two conference championships under his belt. Most QBs transfer in search of playing time not to sit the bench
