If ESPN wants to pay for them why not? I mean 12 is probably more preferable but if ESPN makes an increase to 14 worth it, why not deal the death blow to CUSA. Rewrite the pecking order.

Also CUSA has too many bad teams, that’s their issue.
ESPN doesn't even have out phone number saved to contacts. LOL

There is an actual rumor that ODU/Charlotte are courting the A10 and then going Independent in football. I guess they could always drop back down to CAA as well, which honestly would be better for them than going Indy.

RE: Serious Question
The rumor is that Charlotte and ODU are heading to the A10 in basketball and football will go independent with a scheduling alliance with the other independents. That sounds pretty far fetched to me. However, the next rumor would make sense if the scenario ever was to play out.

The next rumor I am most interested in is that the SBC’s 2 basketball only schools are going to leave for the Southland conference. Once that happens the Sun Belt will look to add 2 of the 4 from Marshall, Southern Miss, Charlotte, and ODU for all sports membership. Again all completely unfounded rumors, but is something to talk about in the off season. Obviously, you all know by now that I’d love to be on board with the Belt, so I always enjoy when rumors pop up.

RE: Serious Question
From a quick look, looks like ODU has been unhappy with CUSA for a few years now. Now that they went a season without football, they could make a clean cut from CUSA. They could go A10 for basketball, CAA for football, or just go CAA for all sports.

Also, the CUSA exit fees is based on the last two years of revenue. With COVID the exit fee will be much cheaper as there wasn't as much revenue generated over the last two year period.

RE: Serious Question
IF the Sun Belt continues the rise and it becomes abundantly clear that significant separation has occurred between the two conferences we have a mess. At the moment it's not so clear. Definitely trending in the SB favor for sure but if the lines become more clear over the next couple of years a major shake up is inevitable. If Marshall and USM even sniff a move to the Sun Belt CUSA implodes. It's already a pouter keg waiting for a miracle. It's not only not showing up but the reverse seems to be the trend. Marshall should jump first.

I could see ODU doing that if they can coax JMU to move up to join that scheduling alliance.

RE: Serious Question
Will be interesting to see if any schools drop to FCS, or all together, after this athletic year is over. There are obviously some major financial difficulties ahead for a lot of schools. Hard to believe ODU and UNCC think it is a better financial situation to play indy football then in an FBS conference, unless the finances of CUSA really are that bad.

Maybe they should start a football only conference and everyone a part that needs to just rehouses their olympic sports. UMASS, Liberty, JMU, ODU, Charlotte, and Liberty could find 2 members to make the move with them. The FxU twins? They could put their olympic sports in ASUN. That’d give them 4 other FL schools.

At least by doing this they could get a bowl tie in or so for their “champion”.

Have to remember both schools are historically basketball first schools. Moving to the A10 for them is similar to UCONN leaving the AAC to join the Big East and UMASS choosing to remain FBS Indy.

RE: Serious Question
If UNCC and ODU are courting the A10 that would be addition by subtraction for CUSA based on results the last five years.

Any Western team want to hop to CUSA, straight trade for Marshall, makes sense for all parties.

I find it best to align with the most consistent players in the game. CUSA blundered in not inviting ULL, APP, GaSo, Troy, and stAte... (Coastal wasn’t an option then). And now they are paying the price. My friend called me stupid for wanting theses teams. Hate to say I told you so..

Like I said, Marshall will survive either way, but I would love a reshuffle for a lot more money. But I get that the Belt is happy, and if you all stay where you are, so be it. We have App scheduled OOC and hopefully GaSo and Troy (we owe you Em effers lol) and hopefully CCU and ULL... why not?

I think if Benson was still the commish, he would've entertained the idea of expanding with Marshall and Southern Miss or UAB.

He already tried once. Benson asked Marshall, UAB, USM, and ECU if they'd be interested in moving to the SBC back in 2011, but they were all too worried about losing the CUSA TV contract money, and no one was really sure what CUSA was going to look like after realignment.

It worked out well for ECU, but not the other three.
Well, in 2011, CUSA was stronger. So We declined. Financially it made sense. We still had the big budget schools. Timing wasn’t right. CUSA effed up. I said that from the beginning.

RE: Serious Question
If the Sunbelt continues its upward trend, I’d love for USM to make the switch. I think a lot of USM fans would agree.

Looking at our 2021 schedule, I’m more excited about playing South Alabama and Troy than Rice or FIU (and others).

Jags,

If i post something, it’s because I have information that has been published. If I have an opinion I will let it be known it is just that. I am not the DavidSt of the CUSA board.

And I know you weren’t impugning my comments. I just want to make
it clear that I don’t want to muck up the conversation.

But I am friends with the President of the Big Green among others. I have no inside knowledge of the financials of Marshall but I have a pretty nice finger on the pulse.

I think an earthquake is coming.. not so much for the Belt at all, but for CUSA. I think it would benefit the belt to listen if Marshall UAB and USM approached. If a deal is struck, then fantastic. If not, we will survive...
I think the three of us can do fine. But not in an ideal situation that would benefit all parties.

RE: Serious Question
Would UAb really be interested in the SBC??? We’ve heard from Marshall and USM fans, but I’ve never seen a UAb fan show interest in the SBC.

I could actually see UAb wanting into a stronger basketball league, and being indy in football along with those eastern teams.

UAB is old guard CUSA. They align more with Marshall and usm than UNT UTSA and rice. Remember, UAB was in the East for a long time.. so was USM...

Holy smokes:

UAB/Troy
USA/UAB
USM all three
Marshall/APP (sellout) either at Marshall or app
GaSo (sellout) same
Coastal vs Marshall (so many Marshall alums in SC)
Troy... yeah, we owe you some payback. Let’s do this!

This is the first I've heard of Little Rock and Texas-Arlington going to the Southland...

What incentive does Little Rock have to leave? Central Arkansas just announced they're leaving the Southland, so that's pointless for Little Rock to join. Plus they've been an SBC member for 30 years, and have a non-football rivalry with Ark State.

Won't happen.

You're looking at some packed stadiums across the board with those matchups.

I'd enjoy playing Marshall again. It was fun knocking you guys around back when Demarcus Ware was raining terror on opposing QB's.

RE: Serious Question
I'll never forget going to #6 Kansas State in circa 2003 and beating them. The following week we went to Troy. I could be wrong, but I believe at the time we were the first known FBS team and first ranked team to come to your place. That place was rocking and you all whipped our butts.

Kansas State went on to win the Big 12 that year, and I'm pretty sure they won their BCS bowl too.
