Isn't it funny? Just goes to show the value the Party of Identity puts on identity. Especially after all the mean and inaccurate words they have hung on Trump and associates over the years. They don't care about the people they elect, just the labels.

What a absolutely horrible takeaway from someone criticizing another for using a derogatory word.

I hope you remember that you said this about the liberal posters on here.

I already said that you guys remind me of kittens chasing a laser point pointer. What could be more horrible than defaming kittens?

Derogatory words have a purpose. Or is it your position that nobody should ever be allowed to say anything derogatory of anybody else? Maybe THAT is why we think you guys want to control our speech and our thoughts. Wrongthink, here we come.

What a good idea. I just popped some all natural French popcorn I bought at an exorbitant price back in June 2020.

I know it's just semantics, but I don't think, imho, you can call Kamala a 'slut'. I think there's more than sufficient evidence that she whored herself out for political and financial gain.

But if one 'prostitutes oneself' (a nicer term than whore?) for financial (and/or political) gain, are you then a 'prostitute'?

Prostitution is a relatively broad profession... by that I mean even the most discriminate of prostitutes will engage with a variety of people... Almost anyone can have $200 or whatever the fee for service is, but only certain people can have the power or position to advance someone in a career or politics.

I see one as an independent contractor... and the other as a targeted 'victim'.

A prostitute is engaging in an illegal act. While they can certainly turn on their 'client', they are equally culpable unless they can somehow argue that they didn't want to be a prostitute, but the guy made them be one.

On the other side, while certainly a 'boss' could claim that their subordinate 'came on' to them if they decided to claim to be a victim, almost nobody is going to accept that defense. The power dynamics are completely different.

Huh. I thought it was just some decent people (who happen to be left-of-center politically) encouraging other people to not be unnecessarily rude and offensive. A couple of those other people acknowledge that they would basically not use the word (OO) or would only use it in extremely limited circumstances (Ham). So I'm not even sure why there was such a kerfuffle at this point. The bigger disagreement seems to be about how sexist the word is, not whether it is a word that should actually be used. And also a secondary disagreement about whether/when to chastise someone for using the word.

For example, I imagine if I used the word to refer to a female conservative politician, I might get chastised by some around here. I hope my friends on the left would chastise me for my language. I hope my friends on the right would challenge me for my hypocrisy. And I hope anyone who isn't my friend would just bite their tongue and let everyone else do the chastising!

That is a spot-on description of the behavior of an internet troll. Drop something incendiary on an internet forum just to watch the fallout. Congratulations I guess.

The phrase I use is "throwing a rock and running away". Numbers has not run away - he has engaged numerous times with multiple people on this forum. One of the least likely persons to be a troll I can think of.

To clarify, it's not that I wouldn't use the word - it's that it has been forever since I have seen a situation that to my mind is apt for the use of that word.

But in the melee (a word I use and misuse often) around this word, I came across the following: I learnt how to be an ethical slut

"throwing a rock and running away" /= internet troll and I'll just leave it at that rather get into a lengthy discussion of definitions. Using many people's definition, though... #'s is behaving (specifically in this instance mind you) like a classic internet troll. Say something s***** and then revel in the fallout (his popcorn comment).

Except I didn't drop anything to watch the fallout. I made a comment that has been blown out of proportion to an extent that I find quite frankly astounding.

Again... as the guy who thinks it's reasonable to call Kamala Harris "the most despicable politician in world history" I do not put much faith in your ability to gauge hyperbole.

That's a matter of opinion. In mine, she is a woman totally devoid of a moral compass. She's not up there with Hitler or Stalin or Mao, but they weren't really politicians either.

I can think of several American politicians I consider more despicable.

Adam Schiff
Eric Swawell

Nancy Pelosi
Chuck Schumer

Maxine Waters

In general tiers, worst first.

Not sure where to put Biden, but I suspect he has been selling influence for years, and that is pretty despicable.

Left politicians of other countries or other eras off the list.

I don't.

Not that they are not despicable, just not on Kamala's level.

If snowflakes cry, do their own tears melt them?

Don’t read anything into this, randomly popped into my head as I waxed philosophic to myself.

Are we talking a freezer, or Antarctica? If it is cold enough, does a snowflake cry smaller snowflakes?
