New year’s resolutions
Watching a program this morning in which they discussed New Year’s Resolutions, my mind turned to What If?

What if NYR’s we defined in the way liberals define ecological goals? We would get resolutions like the following:

1. I resolve to smoke 5% less
2. I resolve to cut my intake of beer and pizza 7% by November.
3. I resolve to drive drunk 10% less.
4. I resolve to reduce domestic violence by 1%/month
5. I resolve to do better, even if it is not doing well.
6. I resolve to make these resolutions again next year, regardless of results.

I mean, one of my NY resolutions is to get 30 minutes of exercise 4 times per week.

How do conservatives plan to change their habits? Is the goal always 100% of the time of 0% of the time?

Lol. Bad troll post.

I don’t do NYRs anymore, but if I did I would resolve (for example) to stop smoking, cut out beer and pizza until I reached a target weight, etc.

The spoof was meant to highlight how liberal ecological goals are not meant to cure the problem of global warming, just to delay how fast it gets worse.

Congrats on setting a quantifiable goal for yourself.

Not to cure any problem in any area, just to justify ever more control. If we solved any problem, then they couldn't use it to ratchet up power.

As a management strategy, "Never let a crisis go to waste," requires a never ending series of crises to be effective.

Of course, the "progressive" view is less about one's own actions than it is about telling other people what their actions should be.

True. My thrust was that most left wing ecological programs are not aimed at solving the perceived problem, just delaying it. But you comment is spot on.

As Owl#s indicates, the fundamental aim isn't even to delay the problem, much less solve it. The fundamental aim is to control others. The stated environmental concern offers the excuse, but any actual benefits are just lagniappe.
