Yes, people interview folks for jobs and don't offer them, it happens all the time.
After Napier turned the job down and it got out why Sark cancelled his interview, Clark pulled back but tried to use it to get a raise. This has nothing to do with how good of a job auburn could be, this is about booster demanding he get his way. They are looking for a “yes man” and I promise you that isn’t Napier and the way Clark handled UAB shutdown I don’t think he is either. Napier and Clark are both making a million a year, it’s not like they are coaching at ULM
$1MM bucks isn't chump change, but it would take a pretty f***** up situation to have 2 coaches of G5 programs turn down whats probably a top 15 job and a minimum 4X salary bump. $1MM bucks a year is good money, but $5MM/year and your grandkids' grandkids can be the hippies at App State that drive around in brand new Range Rovers and complain about corporate greed lol.

You mean a program with Bama expectations but letting boosters tell you how to run the program?
Yea nah the money ain't worth it. Especially since Napier is already making good money and he'll have plenty of opportunities in the future.
Steven Godfrey sums it up pretty well.

All true and maybe it'll all work out for UL and Napier that he builds a dynasty and leaves 100% on his own terms for whatever school meets his criteria. But theres also such a thing as overplaying your hand. If he messes up and has a couple of losing seasons he gets fired from UL and has to start over at an FCS school, which has happened before.

All the college football writers said he was offered as well as everyone on the Auburn VIP boards .. Auburn would not give him complete control over the program so he said no thanks
He did the right thing, turning down Auburn. They have a mess to clean up on the Plains, but no one has the stones to tackle it.
I actually think he was willing to tackle it, but not with one hand tied behind his back.

Depends who is spending the money, a million a year can set up your family as well if you aren’t a financial idiot. If you aren’t smart with your money it doesn’t matter how much someone gives you. Napier is only 41 years old. Also, there are still people In this world that value other things more than money. It appears Auburn has put themselves in a bad spot allowing this booster to have so much input and Napier isn’t the only one not interested, doesn’t appear they have top notch coaches lining up to interview.

With A&M's rise, Auburn is destined to finish fourth or worse in the SEC West for awhile, especially with their garbage recruiting class this year. Maybe third if this year is more than just a blip for LSU.

Be interesting to see how his coaching staff plays out. If Steele is still there, I don’t see this working out well for Auburn.

Auburn just hired Bryan Harsin. Boise State is on the clock now, so lock your HCs and ADs up.

The question is did Harsin leave that job as good as he found it??? I don’t think he did. Boise is no longer the untouchable G5 powerhouse they were when he took over that program. Guys are realizing you can have that kind of success without having to live in Boise Idaho.

I don't recall Napier ever saying he turned down the job, but it was put out by Auburn "insiders". I don't think Napier would ever say that anyway. What he might have told them was he wanted to be removed from consideration for the position, which technically is not turning down the job, but it's turning down the job.

The words "Wisdom" and "Wolken" should not be used in the same sentence.

That section of the email was so petty and beneath the president of a major university. But, we are talking about Auburn...

Or, he was setting the record straight about certain coaches acting higher than they really are.
