Running Back
Who should be the lead guy? This is very important since it appears that running is about all we want to do now...

RE: Running Back
We need to eliminate the RPO from our offense (as long as Brady is the QB). Just go straight run or straight pass. Brady is so much better when he's just passing the ball.

I think you are misusing your terms

RPO - Run Pass Option = Hand the ball to the running back or QB pulls and Passes the ball.

Read Option - Hand the ball off or the QB pulls and throws the ball

I don't think we run the read option very often. My point is that, because of the RPO, Brady holds on to the ball too long and doesn't run through his progressions as well as he appears to do when we run a 2-minute offense. For example, in the Cotton Bowl, it seemed to me that we abandoned the RPO in favor of quicker passes (likely because Number 11 for PSU was in the backfield so fast) and were pretty successful.

What's the story on Grandberry? Saw him play at Raleigh-Egypt. If you are signing Juco players, I thought the intent was to play them right away.

Can somebody comment on where he is and what his future might be with the Tigers?

Juco usually learn the system in spring practice as they enter school after Christmas break.

With no spring practice many players have not gotten to know offense and their responsibilitiues.

So, if he had 2 years at Juco, then sits a year with us, he should still have 2 years to play for the Tigers?

Bingo! I been saying that since Norvell. He is no run threat at all so there is no option.

They all get an extra year due to Covid.

Exactly-
the staff knew by the first game at least that every player gets a redshirt this year no matter how much they play. If someone is not playing it is because they cannot contribute right now for some reason.

Based on the Navy game, Asa Martin appears to be the best we have and Clark should be his backup. Clark and others just don't have that "it" factor that our previous running backs had. Martin consistently got positive yards while Weaver and Watkins struggled. The rest should play in garbage time.

We need to find ways to get Martin the ball in space. He can definitely make guys miss but the line just isn't opening up much space.

Run blocking has been pretty bad this year. It all starts up front. I think Clark can be a Patrick Taylor type runner but there has to be at least a crease to get going upfield. Not much there this year. Having said that we don't seem to have a Henderson, Pollard, Gibson, Gainwell type of explosive big play guy on the roster this year. Hopefully some recruits or transfers can fill that need.
