The fact we could not get to 1/3 capacity is simply pathetic COVID be damned. The Arena staff went out of their way to make it safe and I felt totally safe in there. No more excuses. Go to the games.

906 is the smallest crowd ever at Bartow Arena. It is the 2nd smallest home crowd in program history. The smallest ever was 489 on January 13, 1982 in the middle of an ice/snow storm that shut down the city. Coach Bartow opened the doors to anyone stuck downtown to see the game for free.

I think I heard at the pregame chit chat in the G n G room that the conference has agreed to limit crowd sizes to 20% of capacity for all arenas. Dont expect a whole lot more to attend as we go along this season. There also are no single game tickets for sale,, only season ticket packages.

Um...the game was at 2:30 on a weekday before a holiday. If attendance is just as poor tomorrow then you're preaching may be a bit more appropriate.

Dude we have played at this time spot before and had more than 2,000. What we drew was unacceptable on any level but by all means let’s continue to make excuses for our embarrassingly pathetic attendance.

FWIW my best guess at total attendance was around 400 actual people not counting the cardboard cut outs. There was nowhere near 900 live bodies.

And if the above is true that there's no single game tickets, then you can likely expect these kind of numbers for the rest of the season.

Its sad we cannot sell out season tickets in a limited capacity. Much less get people that actually bought tickets to show up. Go to games and stop making excuses.

Thanks to the two rows of Ole Miss fans in attendance for helping boost our numbers.

RE: MBB Game Thread: Alcorn St
Just like football, attendance is basically an irrelevant metric this year. 20% capacity, no single game tickets, Covid cases rising/people afraid to go places (especially indoors - football has an advantage being outdoors), and experience soured by having to wear a mask & not sit in your regular seats. For those reasons you'll have plenty of people who normally come stay home.

That's not to mention regular factors like a 2:30 weekday start, holiday week, students on break, etc.

Ill be at every game but this year attendance is an irrelevant footnote.

I personally counted the 489 people in the building that day, for the official attendance. :)

I don’t feel comfortable in that setting at all, regardless of how many people are actually there. I hope the staff and players stay safe all season, but I will not personally be attending any games.

+1

I won’t be there this season. Too risky for me. Stay safe.

I'm also skipping in-person attendance this season. Best of luck to the basketball teams as long as the season goes on.

If people don't believe going inside a enclosed facility is the most safest thing in the world right now then I don't see the issue. If you feel ballsy enough to go then have at it. Don't expect others to jump off the cliff with ya!

Yeah there’s absolutely no point to worry about attendance this year.

Ballsy enough? What’s he gonna do lose his sense of smell? Really ballsy!

RE: MBB Game Thread: Alcorn St
As far as staff at the game. They only did a fair job during game one. The staff/police were diligent about making sure masks were on properly when one wasn't eating or drinking, BUT they weren't even paying attention to people congregating within 6 feet, nor did they take any action in removing people sitting in closed rows...even after challenged about it. Why zip tie the blocked off seats on rows that have assigned tickets, but not do anything to physically block rows meant to be left unoccupied? That simple floor sticker at the end of those rows to that effect isn't going to cut it.

And it makes no sense to put a plexiglas shield at one register in the concession stands only to use the un-protected registers at the other end of the stand...which is exactly what they were doing.

I would only give the arena staff a "C" grade for game one.

After researching restrictions at other C-USA Schools...several mention a C-USA restriction of 15% of total capacity. For Bartow Arena that would be a Covid capacity of 1,276. Although UAB still states 25% capacity (2,127).

Declared capacity restrictions listed by each school:
UAB - 25%
Charlotte - No Fans
FAU - 15%
FIU - 15%
Louisiana Tech - 15%
Marshall - 15%
Middle Tennessee - 15%
North Texas - Limited Number
Old Dominion - State mandated maximum of 250 people.
Rice - 15%
Southern Miss - 15%
Western Kentucky - 15%
UTEP - 15%
UTSA - 15%
