Exclamation Question About Postponed UNT @ UTEP
Last night after the Rice game, I heard our make up game with UTEP is to be played in Midland. Does anyone know if that is correct?

I saw that somewhere as well. It was an article with a picture of the stadium.

I heard once that Midland got its name because it marked the halfway point — time or distance, I’m not sure — between El Paso and D/FW. So in one sense, it’s sort of the perfect spot for UNT/UTEP to play each other.

For this pandemic year that would be true but this was supposed to be a UTEP home game, so not really ideal. Better than not playing though.

The Texas - Pacific railroad built a depot there in 1884 because it was midway between Ft Worth and El Paso, as you said.

Could well be. The UTEP home game with UAB was going to be there as well but of course the game was cancelled. The high school stadium in Midland is very nice.

The make up game with USM will likely be scheduled there as well.

It is an okay high school stadium, but still a high school stadium.

C-USA is already dealing with enough perception issues. I'd just assume UNT host the game and we play at El Paso next season. Do you think UTEP would agree to that deal?

I don't know if UTEP would agree but I like the idea of UTEP having 5 conference home games in 2021.

I like UTEP but I got to admit, I'd rather North Texas go play a game against UAB at Lesion Field, than play at a high school stadium in Midland.

Its a pandemic year so nobody will give 2 craps that the game is in a high school stadium.
People with the common sense of a gnat will realize that its an attempt to play the game, period.

It comes from the weather report.

What's the weather like, Bill?

Bill: fair to Midland, cloudy thereafter.

GCS is probably on par with some of the stadiums in cusa. Ok, keep on making excuses.

I do. We had an attempt to play the game when UNT offered to pay for UTEP to play the game in Denton. Like I stated in another post, if UTEP can't host the game, I'd be happy to trade locations so the game can be at an actual campus site. I'd be fine with UNT hosting this year, and playing at UTEP next season. Otherwise, traveling to Birmingham looks like a better situation for North Texas.

UTEP could host the game. UNT and their infected team didn’t want to travel. Thanks for staying home and not spreading the virus.

You're welcome. Being that we obviously had cases, I'm glad we didn't spread it to the UTEP team too. So, Will UTEP be able to host the game on Dec. 12th?

RE: Question About Postponed UNT @ UTEP
COVID year or not, I wouldn't like the idea of two of our teams playing in a high school stadium either. We can downplay the perception issue by saying fans would understand because of the circumstances this year, but that's frankly giving people too much credit. Unless someone else has played in HS school stadiums this year, we don't need to be the one setting that precedent. I can imagine a random football fan switching channels or something to find a game to watch, catching two D1 programs playing on a high school field, and what might run through their head.

You say that you would like to trade locations this year and play at UTEP next year. Personally I'd be happy with that but you and I wanting it is quite different than it actually being offered. Lets see if its offered by either school and how the other school responds.

I don’t know why you keep pretending we couldn’t host the original date. UNT became scared of playing in a COVID hotspot and postponed. Other conference teams jumped aboard the same train. As fate would have it they suffered from outbreaks while we stayed healthy at home. We’re hosting a basketball game on Wednesday. It has never been about our ability to host the game but rather the willingness of the opposite team to travel to El Paso and fulfill their schedule. Will UNT show up or will they continue to avoid this game?
