They need to find some way, some how to get the UVA game rescheduled. If they decide they absolutely have to have the revenue from a full house in the AUBC next year post pandemic, then play at UVA this year. It is so easy to make the one hour same day bus trip to play the defending national champion. The UVA hoops game is easily more important than the rest of the OOC games combined.
Really, UVA should be on the schedule every year. Even if it is 2 for 1 or 3 for 1. It is not like JMU is a threatening mid major. Easy annual win for UVA, great high level competition for JMU.

Right now, UVA only has 4 OOC games scheduled.

Hartt, honest question: do you think JMU is the one not scheduling UVA or is it UVA not scheduling JMU?

Went through the arena today. It's a fabulous basketball arena.

Byington keeps saying it's possible they add one more game. Thought I read that teams can have 27 games, provided they meet some sort of criteria (which they supposedly do). Believe it's at 25 now.

I'd be happy if the two teams met in the middle, Ruckersville and played a pick up game at Greene County Technical School on Route 33.

I just want to see signs of a progress pulse with scheduling and that the Rolladex has teams besides Radford, Mt St Mary and Longwood in there...

UVA already has the appetite for scheduling JMU in hoops. This isn’t a football issue where they are lowballing us with guarantee money because they don’t really want to play JMU.

P5 teams may have to reduce their guarantee pay due to COVID, but they still get huge chunks of money from TV games, the ACC network, the NCAA hoops dispersement etc. unlike JMU that has no revenue from those sources. Yes they lose gate receipts, but will have plenty of money to bring teams to the JPJ.

No excuse making. Just get it done.

You can hold out and balk at UVA not paying $100k per game, or you can accept the reduced payment In a COVID year and get a great game with no travel expense. Just find the right number and play the game In front of 1000 people. This particular game in a COVID pandemic is not about the money for once.
Play it here, play it there, play it anywhere says Dr Seuss. Just play the game that was already on the schedule and much anticipated.

I might be in the minority, but all I care about is winning & getting a better team on the court that will contend for a conference title every year. Once we get there, I will worry about who we play. I know we have a new arena, but when we only have a limited number of fans that can attend games I don't see as much value in name programs.

Football - we have the quality covered - now schedule decent OOC games, which it appears they have attempted to do.

I'd rather play UVA at home in a future year when we could have a great crowd.

So you assume it's a JMU issue; that Jeff B isn't/can't/won't negotiate with UVA.

Have you considered that the defending national champion UVA basketball team has NO interest in scheduling #300+ JMU? There are literally 300 teams ahead of JMU that UVA would rather play. In football UVA won't play JMU because they could lose. In basketball UVA has no interest in playing JMU because we're so bad.

Wisdom!! , plus a degree of selfishness too. I was at the UVA game during my freshman year 1982- 2nd game ever at the Convo. What a great atmosphere that was (at least until they pulled away). Back when we had 6-7 rows of lower bowl seating right behind the baskets and the 300 level was full. Used to be a tough place to play before we emasculated it. I'd like to attend a UVA game at our new arena again.

Outside an exhibition game, UVA has absolutely no reason to play JMU and would be really dumb on their part to do so. UVA could beat us by 30 points and their RPI/NET would likely take a hit. WHEN we get into the top 150 or so, things can change, A LOT.

being an AD is such an easy job. even a guy posting on a chat board could do it.

AD checklist

Monday - go FBS
Tuesday - schedule Alabama
Wednesday - finish Bridgeforth
Wednesday night - raise $10 million
Thursday - start a lax program
Friday - play Duke and Kentucky in hoops.

hmm, my work is done, i will take the weekend off

Yes, I considered that. Then I considered that UVA already agreed to play us last year and stomped the Dukes. And they had a contract to play us again this year. So it seems that they indeed have interest in scheduling05-ban #300+ JMU. Are we now to believe that the last 2 games UVA was strong armed against their will and forced to play JMU? C,mon.

I’m not buying the rhetoric. The opening is still there so I am holding out hope that it will get done by somebody that has persistence and determination.
And If you think about maximizing exposure in COVID year with 1,000 max attendance In Virginia it should be done against P5 programs that are plastered all over TV.
Or we can just curl up in a ball Like a victim and hope mommy Comforts us.

UVA wasn’t coming to play us because it helps their SOS. We convinced them to help us out with a “name” to open the bank a la UNC @ Elon. Our negotiators know that. They’re not going to ruin that future game throwing a fit about UVA not playing us this year.

Hart, take solace that UVA is ALWAYS in the building displayed prominently at EVERY home game.

It's true. I am glad it's at least not overly huge on the court.

The UVa decal on the court does not bother me much...nor sure why. We have bigger fish to fry in the athletic dept. than that UVa decal on the court. Example, the best home football game we can get is a team that is seriously conidering the Patriot League.

The decal does not bother me either. Also OOC for football or basketball during the Covid-19 era does not bother me. It's a one off year. I take a grain of salt with everything during this period.
