He's more sensible on a lot of reform legislation than most GOPers are now (especially towards URMs), understands a reserved and measured approach rather than going out with bravado, and he has the appeal to URM voters while still adhering to evangelical doctrine on Abortion. Kind of checks a lot of boxes...only issue is potentially losing the southern vote in some states, especially with his messaging on Jim Crow and the South from his family's background.
