Why not have an opt in? Would the revenue have to be renegotiated? I’m assuming that’s the only stumbling block.

I'm not willing to bet the B1G will restart at all, but I can tell you with the opening of schools and colleges only slowing the decline of cases nationally, the prospect that the B1G will be vindicated by the season falling apart looks bleak.

All the other conferences already did their schedule and shouldn't change it just to allow the Big10 to come in beyond fashionably late.

There are 9 Saturdays between October 17 and December 12. I doubt they play any later than that, because they would want to participate in whatever bowl season there is - especially the CFP and NY6. I could see them foregoing their CCG so they could fit in a 9 game league only schedule rather than have a CCG and cut out that extra game for the other 12 teams.

I doubt the CFP selection committee would wait later than December 13 to announce the NY6 pairings. Other P5 conferences are scheduled to play their CCG by December 12.

CFP Selection Day is Dec. 20. The SEC Championship will be Dec. 19. The ACC will be Dec. 12 or 19. The Big 10 could still play its championship game (or last games) Dec. 19.

“Blatantly disregarding” sounds like a fun challenge you’ll be reading about in the near future.

I doubt it holds up.

Any plaintiff’s lawyer worth his salt is going to argue each case they file is a blatant disregard, malicious, willful and wanton, etc. This will get them the ability to file a case, getting a judge to let it survive, avoiding summary judgement will be a completely different question.

That's going to play havoc with a bowl schedule this year. At this point, there is only one bowl game scheduled as early as 12/19 (the Cure Bowl, between an AAC team and a Sunbelt team). At least 30 bowls do not yet have an announced date.

This compressed time to fit them all in suggests many will either be cancelled of played without fans (which seems to defeat the purpose of a bowl game in the first place). If a bowl that already has a small payout can't sell tickets, and likely would get a smaller TV contract than they have in the past, they are going to lose their shirts.

Still wonder if Michigan and Michigan St will play.

The overwhelming majority of the small payout bowls are owned by ESPN Events. As long as they are able to produce programming the attendance, if any, is just gravy.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ESPN_Events#Events

Quote:ESPN Events operates the following bowls, which ESPN televises:

Armed Forces Bowl
Birmingham Bowl
Bahamas Bowl
Boca Raton Bowl
Camellia Bowl
Celebration Bowl
Famous Idaho Potato Bowl
Fenway Bowl (2020)
First Responder Bowl
Frisco Bowl
Gasparilla Bowl
Hawaii Bowl
Las Vegas Bowl
Myrtle Beach Bowl (2020)
New Mexico Bowl
Texas Bowl

As I stated in another thread concerning bowls I would imagine that if any of the other bowl owners were to get cold feet that in order to keep the programming I could see a case where ESPN would lease the rights to the bowl for a year.

The bill is to protect employees from suing the schools. Students are not employees which this will get challanged in courts.
