Reading the description, my nieces and the thousands of other girls in dance would probably be the target audience.

Netflix apologizes for the promotional “artwork” but not the film itself. Hmmm.

So, honest question: where did the “artwork” come from?

RE: Netflix issues bizarre apology after sexualizing 11-year-olds
Quote:More than 30,000 people have signed a petition asking Netflix to remove “Cuties,” a movie they claim sexualizes children.

The film, which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, premieres on the streaming service Sept. 9. The trailer was released earlier this week on YouTube. It has a TV-MA rating from Netflix.

“Eleven-year-old Amy starts to rebel against her conservative family’s traditions when she becomes fascinated with a free-spirited dance crew,” the film’s description reads on the site.

However, Metro reports that the original summary was much more salacious: “Amy, 11, becomes fascinated with a twerking dance crew. Hoping to join them, she starts to explore her femininity, defying her family’s traditions.”

Netflix told the outlet the changes were made to ensure accuracy. They later issued an apology after the backlash.

The main character, Amy, is a Senegalese Muslim girl who lives in a poor neighborhood in France.

The French film, which also goes by “Mignonnes,” was written and directed by Maïmouna Doucouré, who is also Senegalese. She won the jury award at Sundance for directing the movie.

Her inspiration for the film came from seeing an amateur talent show in Paris. “There were these girls onstage dressed in a really sexy fashion in short, transparent clothes,” the first-time director told ScreenDaily. “They danced in a very sexually suggestive manner. There also happened to be a number of African mothers in the audience. I was transfixed, watching with a mixture of shock and admiration. I asked myself if these young girls understood what they were doing.”

She spent a year interviewing kids in the area to find out why they wanted to act this way.

Petitioners say the film exploits children. “The movie ‘Cuties’ shows children dressed provocatively, dancing sexually and is rated only for adult viewers,” reads their post on Change.org. “It was created for the entertainment of adults who are pedophiles. Please sign the petition to protect our children from exploitation in movies.”

Some Twitter users were equally enraged. Much of the anger was directed at the marketing poster for the film, which shows the young cast posing in cropped dance costumes.

“When you call a movie ‘Cuties’ and promote it like this: That’s sexualizing 11yr old kids,” wrote @iDavid76. “Shame on you, @Netflix.”

Several Twitter users compared the French marketing of the flick to the Netflix poster.

[Image: cuties-posters.jpg?quality=90&st...;amp;w=664]

“The thing about the Netflix campaign for Cuties is how disgustingly sexualized these girls are,” posted @wwarrior_1. “Compare the poster and blurb from Netflix versus the ones on IMDb, s - - t is as different as night and day. Someone should get fired.”

“Black girls suffering from Adultification bias is very f - - king real,” said another user. “No child should ever be put into any disgusting situation like this.”

Why is the the left trying to normalize sexual interest in children? Earlier this year it was The Trouble With Being Born.

Quote:While it does not feature any explicit sex scenes between the "Papa" character and his android daughter – played by a real 10-year-old disguised with wigs, a silicon face mask and a fake name – the sexual nature of their relationship is clearly implied.

Dr Karen Owen, a forensic pychologist and former manager of Corrections Victoria's Sex Offender Programs, viewed part of the film but said she was so disturbed by it "I ceased watching the movie and have deleted the link".

The film was “just wrong in so many ways,” Dr Owen said. "Notwithstanding the artistic intent of the movie, without question it would be used as a source of arousal for men interested in child abuse material.”

Dr Owen said the subject matter "normalises sexual interest in children" and would almost certainly lead to the movie being "used ... for arousal and masturbatory purposes". She added that images put to such use "do not have to be explicitly pornographic in nature".

Dr Owen said the fact the film would be viewed via streaming, with viewers likely to be alone, exacerbated the risk.

Fellow forensic psychologist Dr Georgina O’Donnell, who has not seen the film but has considered detailed descriptions of it, said Australian Federal Police classifications of Child Exploitation Material included laws against depictions of real children, anime, cartoons, and the use of AI children for sexual gratification.

"It is illegal in Australia to use 'simulated' children for sexual gratification," Dr O'Donnell said.

After The Age informed MIFF of the comments by Dr Owen and Dr O'Donnell, MIFF decided to withdraw the movie. Late on Thursday it informed Wollner of the move over Skype.

The Melbourne International Film Festival has dumped a movie in which an android child has sex with its human "father", after a leading forensic psychologist warned it "normalises sexual interest in children".

Austrian director Sandra Wollner’s The Trouble With Being Born, which won a special jury prize at the Berlin Film Festival in February while also prompting audience walkouts, was due to screen at the online-only MIFF 68½, which opens on August 6.

I don't think so, the movie was rated TV-MA. Definitely targeting (weird) adults.

RE: Netflix issues bizarre apology after sexualizing 11-year-olds

Quote:Netflix released the film “Cuties” on its streaming service Wednesday, a film that follows the struggles of an 11-year-old girl named Amy who begins dancing suggestively in attempts to fit in with girls at school who she admires.

Throughout the film, Amy resists her traditional and religious background and resents her absent father after she overhears her mother crying about him taking a second wife.

Amy watches a group of fashionably dressed girls at school who are dancers and longs to be one of them. As she attempts to also become a dancer, Amy steals a cell phone from one of her relatives and watches suggestive videos online to teach herself how to dance. The videos she watches — and the dance moves she learns — are much more mature and suggestive than those of her peers.

She then teaches her newfound dance moves to the other young girls in a scene where she moves their buttocks, bodies, and clothes with her hands to show them the suggestive moves, some of which include the young girls lying on the ground and contorting their bodies.

Ultimately, the dancers make it to a dance competition on the day of Amy’s father’s second marriage. Clad in glitzy crop tops, mini shorts, hair dye and makeup, they dance before judges using the highly suggestive moves that Amy has taught them. The audience appears to be both impressed and dismayed by this performance: one woman attempts to cover her daughters eyes and another is seen frowning.

In the middle of this dance routine, Amy suddenly begins crying and runs from the stage. She runs home where she meets her grandmother, who yells at her for her clothing and calls her a whore until her mother rescues her. Amy’s mother does not force her to attend her father’s wedding, and the film closes with Amy happily jump roping with a group of traditional looking young girls outside her home.

The film, which has sparked outrage on social media platforms over its depictions of young girls, includes a number of close up shots of Amy’s buttocks and crotch, as well as close up shots of her fellow dancers’ buttocks and crotches. These shots usually occur during dance numbers when the children are dancing suggestively.

“Cuties” also includes many scenes linking young girls and sexual or sexualized activities. Towards the beginning of the movie, Amy overhears a group of young girls discussing a video they are watching that appears to be pornography. In another scene, the young girls video chat a boy and one of the girls asks the boy if he would like to touch her breasts.

On another occasion, one of the young girls finds a condom outside and blows it up with her mouth, believing it to be a balloon. Her friends shriek and run away from her when they discover that it is a condom, telling her that she will get AIDS in her mouth.

Amy dances suggestively in front of a stranger to show him that she is a dancer. The man eyes Amy while she dances in an inappropriate manner, and the film zooms in on Amy’s buttocks while he does so. In this same scene, Amy’s friends accuse another man of being a child molester and a pervert for grabbing one of the girl’s arms.

When Amy’s relative discovers that she stole his phone, Amy panics and attempts to get it back from him. She shows him the crop top she is wearing and begins to unbutton her pants. He becomes angry at this and pushes her away, asking her what she is doing. Amy grabs the phone from him and runs into the bathroom, where she locks the door, pulls down her pants and underwear, and takes a picture of her crotch. She then posts the picture on social media.

Amy’s mother and great-aunt later discover what she has been up to with her dancer friends and severely reprimand her. Part of this reprimand includes what appears to be a cleansing ritual where Amy, dressed only in panties and a tank top, shivers as her mother and great-aunt throw water at her. Amy shivers, writhes, and dances on the floor. This scene includes a variety of shots of Amy’s buttocks clad only in the wet underwear.

The film has a TV-MA rating, meaning it is intended for adults, though it is accessible to anyone on Netflix who does not have parental controls on their account.

After initial uproar against “Cuties” when the film’s trailer was released, Netflix apologized for the artwork promoting the movie.

“We’re deeply sorry for the inappropriate artwork that we used for Mignonnes/Cuties,” a Netflix spokeswoman told the Daily Caller News Foundation August 20. “It was not OK, nor was it representative of this French film which premiered at Sundance. We’ve now updated the pictures and description.”

The posters, which have since been updated, depicted the young girls dressed in the outfits that they wear in the final dance competition striking suggestive poses. The posters closely resemble the actual dancing that occurs in “Cuties” during that final dance scene.

“I discovered the poster [at] the same time as the American public,” director Maïmouna Doucouré said in an early September interview with Deadline. “My reaction? It was a strange experience. I hadn’t seen the poster until after I started getting all these reactions on social media, direct messages from people, attacks on me. I didn’t understand what was going on. That was when I went and saw what the poster looked like.”

Doucouré said she received death threats when the poster was released, the Los Angeles Times reported.

“I received numerous attacks on my character from people who had not seen the film, who thought I was actually making a film that was apologetic about hypersexualiation of children,” she said.

The director said she hoped “Cuties” would “make a big change in this world that hypersexualizes children” and said that the Netflix posters were “not representative of the film and especially its message.”

“I really put my heart into this film,” Doucouré told Deadline. “It’s actually my personal story as well as the story of many children who have to navigate between a liberal Western culture and a conservative culture at home.”

“Hopefully they will understand that we’re actually on the same side of this battle,” she said of critics ahead of the film’s release.

Netflix has not responded to a request for comment from the DCNF.

Quote:Republican Texas lawmaker Matt Schaefer asked the state’s attorney general to investigate the Netflix film ‘Cuties’ for possible violations of child exploitation and child pornography, following criticism that the movie sexualizes young girls.

Schafer, who is part of the Texas House of Representatives, announced Thursday on Twitter that he had made the request to Attorney General Paxton for an investigation. The award-winning French film was released Wednesday on Netflix, and was rebuked on social media shortly after for featuring pre-teen girls dancing suggestively, as well as close-up shots of the young girls’ buttocks and crotches.

Republican U.S. House candidate in California James P. Bradley also remarked on the film, saying on Twitter that “If you direct 11 year olds to touch themselves on camera, you’re a pedophile,” in reference to the film.

Republican U.S. House Candidate in California Buzz Patterson commented on the silence of elected officials over the film, calling to #CancelNetflix, a hashtag that has started to circulate on Twitter as more people have become aware of the contents of the film.

Another scene in the film shows the young girl, called Amy, dressed only in panties and a tank top shivering as her mother and great-aunt throw water at her. Amy shivers, writhes, and dances on the floor, and the scene includes multiple shots of her buttocks clad only in the wet underwear.

The film has a TV-MA rating, meaning it is intended for adults, although anyone with access to Netflix without parental controls is able to watch the film.

Quote:Netflix defended the newly released “Cuties” in a Thursday evening statement to the Daily Caller News Foundation, calling the film “powerful” and “award winning.”

“Cuties is a social commentary against the sexualization of young children,” a Netflix spokeswoman told the DCNF late Thursday. “It’s an award winning film and a powerful story about the pressure young girls face on social media and from society more generally growing up – and we’d encourage anyone who cares about these important issues to watch the movie.”

The statement comes after the film ignited furor on social media over its representations of young girls and suggestive dancing.

“Cuties” not only includes many close up shots of little girl’s crotches and buttocks, the film also links young girls to pornography, discussions of sexual acts, a child photographing her genitalia, and more, a review by the DCNF found.

After initial criticism of “Cuties” when the film’s trailer was released, Netflix apologized for the artwork promoting the movie.

“We’re deeply sorry for the inappropriate artwork that we used for Mignonnes/Cuties,” a Netflix spokeswoman told the DCNF August 20. “It was not OK, nor was it representative of this French film which premiered at Sundance. We’ve now updated the pictures and description.”

RE: Netflix issues bizarre apology after sexualizing 11-year-olds
I skimmed through a bit of the film yesterday just to see what the furor was...I had not seen the promotional poster yet, just read that some folks were up in arms about it.

FWIW - The picture Netflix used is basically a screen grab of the movie. Those are the actual costumes they wear for the final dance performance. And the dance they do at the end, is WAY worse than anything conveyed by that promo. I was shocked that the film was directed by a woman with the tight screen shots she uses on kids.

That being said, if you've ever seen dance moms...or watched any cheer or dance teams at your local high school, you'll see basically the same thing...inappropriate sexualized dancing. I'd never let my daughter participate in anything like what they do.

But reading the comments from the director, I sort of get it. Like it or not, many young girls are drawn to this and seem to have no problem participating in it. However, at the end of the movie, the main character freezes during the last performance and starts crying. She then runs off stage and goes back and embraces her family.

Lastly, the posts here claiming Biden is a pedophile or that only democrats are is just as ******* disgusting as this film, and if you had any shame, you'd be ashamed. Pathetic.

I appreciate your view and disgust of the movie, but the bolded part is where you have lost touch. It is not the girls that get into this. They know nothing about it. It is the crazy "Dance Moms". Similar to crazy "pageant moms". They are the ones that have missed something in their lives to make their pre-pubescent daughters dress, act and move like an adult on stage. I also blame the pchickenshit dads that let it happen. Grow a pair and tell your wife your daughter isn't going on stage looking like a "Fly Girl".

Seems like the French original was to bring a spotlight to the issue. Seems like Netflix took it and went this route. Totally bizare.
