It's Just a Mask...

Quote:A Wisconsin state agency is reportedly mandating that its employees wear face masks during video conferences, even if they are home alone.

In a July 31 email, the Department of Natural Resources Secretary Preston Cole reminded employees that the governor’s mask order, which requires anyone over the age of 4 to wear a face-covering while indoors, was to take effect Aug. 1, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.

“Also, wear your mask, even if you are home, to participate in a virtual meeting that involves being seen — such as on Zoom or another video-conferencing platform — by non-DNR staff,” Cole said, according to the Sentinel. “Set the safety example which shows you as a DNR public service employee care about the safety and health of others.”

Under the Gov. Tony Evers’ order, Wisconsinites are required to cover up when they are indoors or in an enclosed space with anyone outside their household or living unit. Face coverings are also “strongly recommended” when people are outdoors and it’s not possible to maintain physical distancing, according to a press release from the governor’s office.

There are exceptions to the rule, however, such as when someone is eating, drinking, or swimming. Furthermore, individuals with health conditions or disabilities that prevent them from being able to safely wear a mask or face covering are exempt.

“We need to get back to working together statewide to flatten the curve and to prevent the spread of this virus,” Evers said in July. “The most important thing you can do is serve as an example to those around you by wearing a mask or face covering, practicing physical distancing, and following best safety practices.”

Quote:A top CDC official has warned that the US must brace for the “worst fall” ever in the history of public health disasters if Americans don’t follow coronavirus guidelines.

“For your country right now and for the war that we’re in against COVID, I’m asking you to do four simple things: wear a mask, social distance, wash your hands and be smart about crowds,” Dr. Robert Redfield, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, told WebMD.

“I’m not asking some of America to do it. We all gotta do it.”

If people fail to follow those tips, next season could be “the worst fall, from a public health perspective, we’ve ever had,” he said.

Redfield’s powerful plea came as COVID-19 fatality numbers soared to more than 166,000 nationwide, with 1,499 deaths reported on Wednesday alone — the most in a single day since May, according to Johns Hopkins University data.

Along with masking up and social distancing, folks can also fight the pandemic by getting a flu vaccine, he said.

“By getting vaccinated, you can protect your children,” he said. “When we look at the mortality that we see with flu, one thing is for certain — the kids that get vaccinated, they basically get protected against death.”

The CDC has bought 10 million doses of the flu vaccine for uninsured adults this year, compared to 500,000 doses in past years, and more will likely be ready by the winter of 2021, Redfield said. There are also a total of 270 active trials for COVID-19 treatments.

Speaking about online efforts by anti-vaxxers to discredit vaccines — along with a recent poll showing one-third of Americans would refuse to get the shot if it were available — other experts acknowledged a strong public education campaign is needed.

“We are behind here,” said Dr. Francis Collins, director of the National Institutes of Health, according to CNN. “We haven’t done a good job of getting [coronavirus vaccine] information out there.”

“Speaking for myself, I think I underestimated the level of public resistance … I didn’t expect it to be that widespread,” he said.

As of Thursday, more than 5.2 million people in the US had been infected with the coronavirus, according to Johns Hopkins University data.

What is these people's obsession with masks?

If you wash your hands, be smart about crowds and are able to socially distance, masks are totally useless.

As the numbers are going down, they have to again rachet up the fear. Redfield also said that this fall could be the worst we have seen. SMH

RE: It's Just a Mask...
I will not wear a mask on my property and will openly defy any government mandate to do so.. but.. I reserve the right to mandate that others wear one if they enter my property. Its my property and get to make the rules. If you don't like it?...Go away.

I own myself. Thus I own the fruits of my labor. No government should be able to dictate what I do with my body or the products of its labor as long as the principle of non aggression(theft, fraud, violence) is not violated. Only I get to do that...period.

I'll wear a mask if I pop in and out of a grocery store or 7-Eleven if I have to and I will waive any shopping of any duration until this is over. I will not wear a mask outside running, biking, on private property or in any other manner outside.

So glad I work for a small biz owner who's a conservative and not some silly gov bureaucracy. Amazing how many of our regular sales reps have stopped at our office and are glad they don't have to wear a mask inside.

Most places here you have to wear one. Can usually get away without one at 7-Eleven and restaurants but that's it. Once it cools off I'm going to start wearing a Michael Myers mask. My wife does 95% of the shopping anyway, but she won't buy me cigarettes.
