You mean without Big Ten and the Pac12...

Still... If I were a Big Ten or Pac12 school right now, I would be grieving that it looks like college football will go on without us. It becomes very real when you see a poll released and your conference is banned from it because you decided not to play.

Maybe they're still holding out hope that the other conferences will eventually cancel, but I feel like this should be an OOPS moment for them.

What I'm hoping for is a season of real football culminating in a playoff between the champions of the SEC, ACC, Big 12, and AAC. Hoping COVID turns out to be a big nothing burger, and the Big Ten and Pac 12 end up feeling like fools for sitting out.

I hope all you said happens but others feeling like fools.

PAC 12 already had a huge outbreak in Arizona as well as some of the schools in California. I wish no ill on a group being more cautious since we do not know the long term cost of this on the players.

The BIG 10 is loaded with the really smart people and they usually are right on target.

We are just starved for sports.

I guess I'm just filled with schadenfreude for the P5 conferences in general. Obviously I hope they're terribly wrong and they don't see a spike in deaths.

I agree. And thats just it. Some people will catch the virus. Lots actually. But hopefully it doesn’t cause deaths to spike. I don’t think it will. Young people are so much more resilient than us older folks.

They will still dominate the top 10, because they are the media's favorite conferences. jk

Covid is definitively not a nothingburger

I think you meant heading forward, you hope that if games are played, especially with fans in attendance, that it doesn’t generate mass hot spots and contribute to this 1,000 plus daily death toll we cannot seem to shake (well over that of kate, highest daily deaths since May).

Only if there are near no fans and no mass gatherings to watch televised games could this be feasible. The May and June slight slowing was a result of earlier distancing. We relaxed and July and August brought so much back.

With schools reopened now it seems unlikely to slow.

Wish we could have just bitten the bullet several months ago. Argued then if we want some sense of normal football it was a must. But Karen had to get her Starbucks without a mask

I think now that Covid takes an American life every 8 seconds the nothing burger wish has passed. There has been nothing miraculous about this pandemic.

Not to be petty, but there were estimated 1500 deaths from Covid Pandemic in the U.S. today, thus if equated to one every 8 seconds, there would actually have been closer to 10,500.

Do the math. 86,400 seconds in a 24 hour period.

Not sure where the 8 second info came from, but this is the same type of info that media and others pass along every day. It’s become normal for people to accept this rather than verifying facts.

Wondering why so much untrue info goes out constantly? I mean who or what organization could be behind this? ??

The stat he referenced incorrectly is 80 seconds, not 8.

Pony Tail Santa Claus has been contradicted by facts at least 3 times this week.

Pretty sure he's got all the signs.

Some of it is definitely fake news on purpose. But I've noticed a lot is stupidity and/or carelessness by posters who don't think about or proof read their posts or the ramifications of bad info. I think its a generational thing as much as anything. This math doesn't work at all and I don't know if it is poor math skills or blindly repeating bad info, but, at 1500 deaths per day, that's a little less than one a minute (one every 62 seconds). We are averaging about 900 per day recently and that's about one every 96 seconds. There are no fossilized roots under Devil's Tower.

Over 160,000 deaths in US since March. Nothing burger? OK.

I meant for the impact on young football players when I said nothingburger. As in, there might be a few cases, but they will fully recover.

I think it's every 0.8 sec. Or was it 800 seconds? Every 8 days maybe.....

On the poll however, it is SO FREGGIN sweet to see Memphis with a football team being ranked on a poll....STILL!

We are certainly in the process of shaking the 1,000 deaths per day. We've been below the number 3 times just this week. July was rough, to be sure. But August is trending the right way. 16 straight days of declining positive cases (14-day avg).

Not sure on the impact from school. Europe has been opening schools for a few weeks now, and no real increase has been seen yet.

And you used Karen wrong. It's a term liberals use derisively to depict conservatives. Conservatives don't get their coffee from Starbucks. They use Black Rifle Coffee in their Keurig at their actual workplace.
