Scratch Weber State or Southern Utah. Big Sky conference just cancelled fall football.

FCS will be down to the Southland, SoCon, OVC, MVFC and a few others trying to keep alive.

LOL, surprised GT vs UCF is still on. It's the last ACC OOC game left.

Assuming that would cancel all the FCS games FBS schools have scheduled.

Last team to cancel is the champion

If it moves to the spring would teams be able to play a fall game?

Looks like FCS is done for 2020, or at least the possibility of an NCAA championship is done, if it's confirmed that the Big Sky and Pioneer are out. That would put the number of FCS teams that haven't been canceled for 2020 at under 50%.

It's just a matter of time until the rest of the conferences shut down. OVC and MVFC are probably next.

Yep. There'll be a wave tomorrow and Monday. I doubt there will be any FCS football at all by Tuesday or Wednesday night. MVFC already indefinitely postponed their virtual media day. The Pioneer officially cancelled and the NCAA confirmed the Ivy, SWAC and MEAC count. I believe that puts the FCS at 49.59% even before the Big Sky's decision.

G5, you're on deck.

So we will have an impromptu bowl game between the Southland Champ and MVFC Champ instead.

Oops, correct number is 50.42%(60/119) at this moment. So the playoffs live on for a few more hours.

119: There were a total of 127 teams that should have played this season if not for the pandemic. 4 of those teams were ineligible for the playoffs due to their transitional status. 4 more teams were ineligible due to APR violations. So that left 119 playoff-eligible teams. A reporter reached out to the NCAA and confirmed that the Ivy, SWAC, and MEAC all counted for eligibility purposes.

The 60 came from every conference that has not officially cancelled as of Thursday night, plus JMU, Elon and Villanova from the CAA that have indicated they are considering playing an independent schedule.

But the FCS is now a single team away from no playoffs, and reports suggest the Big Sky has voted to cancel.

Danny White was interviewed and Florida A&M is working on creating an independent schedule. He is hopeful the UCF game will be salvaged. I wonder how many other schools are looking to go Indy from conferences that shut it down for the year.

Did you count Hampton out? They are in the Big South, a conference that is not out yet, but Hampton has shut it down.

Yep, counted Hampton out.

Here was my core source. I double checked it for eligible teams, added the Ivy schools, and updated the Pioneer.

I’m all for FCS football to move to the Spring just as long as it’s safe

Big Sky probably has the fewest logistical hurdles of any Division I conference to do spring football. Nobody has lacrosse, only 2 of them have baseball and I think only 7 or 8 even have softball. In a normal school year, once basketball ends, the BSC is basically in the barn except for golf, tennis and track. So they've got the best shot at making this happen.

coughwintercough

Spring football is better than nothing, but there are an awful lot of northern FCS schools with either no indoor practice facility or no indoor stadium. Sure temps will probably be okay for the later part of any spring season, but the month of pre-season practice and the first couple games could be brutal.
