Any word out on official cancellations? Any thoughts or rumors to UCF going to UNC to keep the game scheduled? Since Auburn was cancelled I think it would be a SOS booster for UNC to reach the playoffs if they somehow come out of a weak ACC with only Clemson on top. Was this game officially canceled yet since we have under a month to do?

What about UCF to GT?

We don't even know if the ACC is going to retain the OOC game. Or if it is 8 games or 10 in conference. It's still a fluid situation.

With that in mind what you want as an ACC AD for your 1 OOC game right now is pretty clear:
- Absolute scheduling flexibility ... need to be able to play this game early, mid-season, or late or even on a delayed season or early season.
- Cheap to get due to pandemic financial stress
- Cheap to cancel due to both of the former
- Must play game at home due to league mandate
- Must play game against team using ACC approved health and safety guidelines due to league mandate

That sounds an awful lot like FCS to me. If an OOC game is even retained I expect everybody to fill it with in state FCS or previously contracted FCS.

I can't imagine the SC Legislature will not step in and order Clemson and SC to play if the ACC and SEC play.

All they need to do is pick a date for Big Thursday

I guess it would be up to UCF to see if the Athletic Dept is willing to do it. I know the AAC testing is going to be pretty stringent on par with the P5 leagues. Technically can bus since it is a long days drive. It is also the first week of the season. Maybe can make it work. If it ends up cancelling at the last minute, not the end of the world.

Syracuse AD says the plus one OOC game is definite, even following the SEC's snub.

I disagree that we'll see many FCS opponents. The conference will want to avoid having ESPN making any claim to reduce the contract payout due to lost games. If everyone plays a G5 opponent, the conference will provide 5-6 fewer games to ESPN, but with an increase of about 6 P5 v P5 games, and a reduction of 14 games against FCS opponents. If you want to keep it local, make it FAU at Miami, USF at FSU, Ga.St. at GT, App.St. at Wake, Charlotte at Duke, ECU at NC St., Liberty at VT, ODU at UVA, Buffalo at Syracuse, UMass at BC, WMU at ND, and not sure who at Clemson, UNC or Pitt.

The B12 might go in a different direction on this. I think the members want the plus one to serve as their school retained game. They haven't promised anything more than an FCS opponent for these (although Texas may have).

I would think that schools would be looking to avoid paying cancellation fees where possible. For example, Clemson could stick with either Akron or The Citadel since they were both originally contracted for this season. Florida State could stick with Samford, UNC could stick with UConn, Syracuse could stick with Liberty, Wake could stick with App State, etc.

UConn just canceled its 2020 football season this morning.

As an independent, did they even have anyone left on their 2020 schedule?

Plus, if I'm not mistaken, The Citadel beat The U of SC last time they played so Clemson could play them and still call it "The Palmetto Bowl"...

I saw that.

At this point, there is really no need to keep guessing at what may happen.

Not really, in the times of Covid it would be very difficult to put a full schedule together.

Perfect excuse to kill the program now though.

Good chance for ECU at UNC - that would help to mend some political fences

It is already scheduled, so therefore makes good sense. Syracuse currently has Liberty. I'd drop them in a heartbeat for Army and waive any requirement for Liberty to make up the home game to us.

Yep! Saved Carolina 1.5M. The way the contract was written, we were going to have to pay them regardless until they cancelled their season.

I would imagine we will end up with JMU (already scheduled....$1M if we don't play them).

You missed Louisville ... which will prolly keep Western Kentucky as they were on the schedule, and are FBS. The other Kentucky school from the western part of the state, Murray State was also on the schedule, but are FCS.
