RE: Tracking the return of JMU sports (no discussions of validity of covid pandemic)
[new] stuff.
------
JMU: One positive test result of an asymptomatic player on 7/22 and 12 players were quarantined as part of response to the single positive test. This is in addition to the single positive test and 3 quarantined players from early in July. JMU will have to make the field as an at large as the CAA auto qualifier is out. Chatty, UNC (could be impacted by +1 ACC plan) and Elon are still on, Merrimack is out.
FCS: 7/24 statement said no change currently and will revisit in August. They would accommodate a spring championship if the majority of the schools wanted to move it. Bourne set the threshold at 50%. Factually, 53 teams out of 123 are not playing, but my guess is the Ivy doesn’t count at all, so 45 out of 115. MEAC and SWAC teams probably don’t have a solid foundation to argue on postponing to Spring due to their preference on their national championship. So my educated guess is we are looking at a confirmed 26 teams out of 96 towards the 50% push to Spring.
P5:
ACC: Officially 10 + 1 OOC and the OOC must be played in the school’s home state. ND gets 10 ACC games [new]
Big Ten: Conference only; Rumored to be 9 or 10 game season starting on 9/5 allowing 3-5 open weekends and expect final confirmation by next Friday [new]
Big 12: Playing as planned; Iowa State AD (Jamie Pollard) said Big 12 is still planning on 12 games seasons on 7/29 but excepts they will have to cancel one game and that 1 or 2 opponents will have to cancel. Based on his statement, it appears to be schedule as many as possible to guarantee games. However ESPN is reporting a "source" that say 9 +1 has "gained significant support from the athletic directors" and that the ADs will discuss 4 or 5 different models on Monday [new]
Pac 12: Conference only (10 games) starting after 9/19
SEC: Conference only (10 games) starting after 9/26 [new]
Indys (ND, Liberty, BYU, Army, NM, UMass, UConn): ND is included in the ACC 10+1 plan; BYU has now had 6 games cancelled due to conference only decisions. UMass lost their second game and as it appears, the $1.9M payday from Auburn. I guess the optimistic view is they are also out of the $250k owed to Albany [new]
