Theory: Once fans get a taste of a 10-game conference schedule with few or no buy games, they're never going to want to go back.

Think about it: Power 5 schools voluntarily pay directional or FCS schools millions of dollars to play home games their fans don't care about when they could be playing more games against each other for free.

Why? Because that's just the way it's always been.

The reason why this is wrong is because this theory means that the P5 teams will be fine not playing at home for a game every other year to replace that game if the conference slate is expanded. They make a hell of a lot more money from the gate and concessions/parking for those powder puff money games that "nobody cares about" than the actual pay to the body bag team.

Yeah really. I'm not sure they are ready to ditch the 7 home games, the money, the big OOC games, or qualifying for bowl season.

That's not necessarily true. Even if the ACC went to a 10-game conference schedule they could still schedule two OOC homes every year or 2 for 1's that would guarantee them 7 home games every other year.

I'm not a doctor or anything, but 2 OOC home games per year would probably....be buy games.

Quote:The Southeastern Conference will play a 10-game, league-only schedule, according to Sports Illustrated, joining the majority of the other major college football conferences in a decision that cancels non-league games and delays the upcoming season during the coronavirus pandemic.

The league season will reportedly start on Sept. 26. Divisional structure will continue with an SEC championship game on Dec. 19, but league teams will play two more teams from the opposite division to complete the schedule.

OK, guys. The SEC just announced conference games only. BYU lost another home game - v. Missouri, and the replacement game with Alabama. Time to get BYU to the 2020 AAC going!

Saw talk of B12 scooping them this year on another board.

Not a huge fan of BYU, but they do deserve to be in a P5 league. 60k+ stadium, National Champions with good olympic sports fan base and academics.

I hope they make it in...and UC are #12 of course05-stirthepot

We’d likely have to play @UNC if we want to play them still.

Who cares, this will be a Top 25 opponent and create buzz early in the season. Certainly will be a boost to the SOS. Not like home field is gonna mean much with no fans.

They're not going to keep a game that they could lose. They'll keep the Uconn game, has the same buyout as the UCF game with no chance of losing.

Same with GA Tech, they'll either keep their rivalry game or if the SEC does go conference only as expected they'll play GA State or GA Southern.

With SEC backing out (3 of the ACC-SEC games were @ACC teams and thus part of the ACC television package, a cheeky thing to do), I wouldn't just assume Georgia State will be the replacement. When GT-UCF was cancelled the first time, Georgia State's game was also cancelled by that hurricane (vs FIU/FAU I presume?). GT needed one more game to reach bowl eligibility that year. Georgia State was available and eligible to play a hurricane make up game. They however insisted the game be played at Turner Field. That's a non-starter, a d*ck move, and less revenue for everybody involved than would be generated in Bobby Dodd Stadium or (at the time) The Georgia Dome. So don't look for GT to do Georgia State a solid now that the shoe is on the other foot. **** 'em. Schedule Southern or FCS or bust. I'd rather play Mercer or Kennesaw.

UCF’s games against GT and UNC might be saved due to the SEC going conference only....both their #1 options were SEC teams.

UNC would only have a shot if Uconn packs it in for the season. Both games have a buyout of $1.5m, Uconn is already scheduled to play @UNC, guaranteed win during a rebuild. UNC had a very good chance of starting the year 0-2 crushing their morale going into conference play, now they have a real shot at building some momentum and winning the coastal

Your posts here are always a welcoming rational POV, but the folks at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah are the only ones that can make that happen or really initiate that conversation, last I heard, Aresco was willing to listen and all of his attempts at an invite still stand.

UC doesn't have a "60k+ stadium".

I thought if it was a home game you could keep it? That’s what all the UCF sources are saying.

The ACC's guidelines were clear: Conference only + 1 game which MUST be in state and MUST meet ACC standards for testing/health protocols. The +1 was purely there for the SEC-ACC games, 3 out of 4 of which are in ACC stadiums this year and thus part of the ACC TV package. It's more likely that +1 is thrown away altogether than UCF is somehow magically retained.

That's not happening, fox owns half of the big Xii and ESPN owns BYU.

Now the AAC adopting a 9+2 schedule to pick up a few of the lost ACC +1 games makes financial sense.

BYU is about to get left out, the independents are getting locked out with UConn, NM State, and I believe UMass looking at 14 day quarantines from out of state or from certain states like say Utah.

That leaves Liberty and Army (who also currently has the 14 day quarantine for Utah).
