Surprised I haven't noticed this posted. Maybe I just missed it. Now Sotomayor never met a government reg she didn't like. Ginsburg will sometimes side with liberty, but still likes most government regs. But this is totally against everything Roberts, Breyer and Kagan have previously ruled on.
Nevada says its ok to gather in large crowds to gamble, but not ok to do so to worship.
"...Chief Justice John Roberts joined the court’s liberals in the majority. The court as a whole gave no explanation, though Roberts said in an earlier case that judges must give elected officials wide latitude to make health and safety judgments during a pandemic.
Conservative Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh dissented. saying they would have let the church hold larger services while the case went forward on appeal.
“That Nevada would discriminate in favor of the powerful gaming industry and its employees may not come as a surprise, but this Court’s willingness to allow such discrimination is disappointing,” Alito wrote...."
You wonder how much Roberts is being paid by the casinos.

"...This is a simple case. Under the Governor’s edict, a 10-screen 'multiplex' may host 500 moviegoers at any time,” Gorsuch wrote. "....In Nevada, it seems, it is better to be in entertainment than religion. Maybe that is nothing new. But the First Amendment prohibits such obvious discrimination against the exercise of religion."
The Trump White House weighed in by siding with the justices, with chief of staff Mark Meadows tweeting "It’s a sad day for our country when the high court supports casinos and not churches. This Supreme Court ruling would be a supreme disappointment to our founding fathers....""
