They better do the same to all the other schools exposed in the FBI case, or not to any of them. Personally, I think they went way overboard.

Oklahoma State was hit with a postseason ban for an assistant coach who committed ONE Level I violation. Kansas is facing FIVE Level I violations.

Everybody involved is about to get hit HARD.

UNC fought every aspect of their case, made it a credentialing issue and got off scott free.

Why anyone would cooperate with the NCAA is beyond me

These people punish schools for kids sleeping on a couch

RE: NCAA means business
I don't think accepting bribes, which is a felony with time behind bars, falls in the same category as academic compliance rules.

That said, one wonders how a break away would deal with compliance issues. Everyone may hate the NCAA, but the issues they deal with on the rules compliance front are necessary, no matter how poorly executed. New rules, even sensible ones that are easier to comply with, will see people cheating. There will be no sudden outbreak of virtue and good will among the P5 and those they bring along with them. After all these are the same people cheating now. So how will a break away deal with enforcement? They will wind up doing what the NCAA does now.

In light of what happened for decades at UNC the NCAA should kiss these schools for one off violations.

More fuel for a breakaway!

And to Stu, they would all contribute to the hiring of a third party to enforce rules. But once images and stipends are set and transfer rules possibly abnegated by contracts instead of scholarships (this might take a little while) then compliance, investigations, and punishments would essentially be matters of code law. You do this, then this is the punishment. If it is the same for everyone there's no need to gripe. The problem with the NCAA is they protect their cash cows in hoops particularly and are arbitrary about what happens with football violations.

We'll see. Inconsistently and favoritism is the hallmark of the NCAA.

Exactly. They cant punish what isn’t provided to them by the accused.

FIFY.

They do nothing on their own. Heck, even schools will dish out their own penalties after doing everything themselves, even doing all the investigative work and cooperating. NCAA just piles on and makes a punitive statement. I can’t think of an equivalent to that kind of laziness.

RE: NCAA means business
The ESPN article lists these other basketball programs under investigation. We'll have to wait and see which of them get penalties similar to what Ok St just got.

Quote:Oklahoma State is the first program to receive NCAA sanctions for rules violations related to the federal bribery and corruption criminal cases. Kansas, Louisville, NC State, South Carolina, TCU and USC have announced that they have received NCAA notices of allegations.

Sources previously told ESPN that Arizona and LSU are also under NCAA investigation related to violations in their men's basketball programs.

Auburn and Creighton have declined to confirm whether they have received NCAA notices of allegations.

Kent State has to take the fall for one of these schools.

FIVE Level 1 violations for Kansas?

Dang, UMKC must be holding their breath on whether they get hit with the death penalty.

Luckily Kent State won the Wagon Wheel this year, so if it comes down to a MAC school taking the fall for this, it'll be Akron.

Man/University speaking from experience, three times.
They should have called SMU for their play book for handling such issues.

That was the plan and then right before it happened, they realized that Oklahoma Wesleyan is an NAIA organization and had to scramble for to make up a plan B.
