The change does not apply to Cibola County, McKinley County or San Juan County due to the high rate of COVID-19 cases. The three counties will, instead, enter the "preparation phase."

Mask Requirement

The governor also announced she will require New Mexicans to wear masks in all public spaces, starting May 16. Kids are also required to wear masks.

That being said, my main problem isn't the mask requirement, its' that things are still EO'd closed to "mitigate" the spread, even tho it appears that's been done in New Mexico. The mask requirement PLUS harsh restrictions on business is just smoke & mirrors to convince you she's trying to open it. When everything in the Dem side points to 'need vaccine.'

Went to Trader Joe's today... didn't wear a mask. I'd say I saw 3 or 4 people without masks. The rest had them on. I don't fault either side... in America you're free to wear a mask if you so choose.

I went inside a restaurant to order takeout yesterday for the first time in several months. I'm old. I wore a mask. So did all the African-Americans. All the rednecks were maskless. So was everybody behind the counter, although they did have plastic counter shields, and masks around their necks, lol.

I'm good with that, as long as they don't get up behind me or cough on me. Free country.

NM's numbers are inflated because NE Arizona, mostly Navajo came to NM to get tested and treated. They even helicoptered patients to ABQ until the media found out.

“We are concerned that the 911 system will be with those type of phone calls,” Gallegos said. “By the time you try to get a hold of police or anyone else, I think, it is an exercise in futility at that point.”

Day says all of that could change if people don’t follow the governor’s order.

“If you have a law if you have a public health order that has teeth in it and you are not enforcing it, what does that result in?" Day said. “That's going to be one of the issues I think facing the governor if you have large numbers of people ignoring the order. Is she going to try to enforce it with these criminal penalties?”
