Ain’t no way Phase 1 will last two years. Richmond will be burned to the ground before the citizens of Virginia accept that.

Without commenting on what can/cannot be re-opened, I feel we are indeed in for the long haul. The consensus seems to be towards a high probability of a rebound in the fall. History buffs will recall there was even a third wave in the 1918 pandemic, and that one (eta: that pandemic) did indeed last two years.

I don’t expect COVID to magically disappear, but I thought the idea was to “Flatten the curve.” We’ve been successful. The hospitals are freakin’ ghost towns. It’s time to start opening things back up. High risk populations should probably stay home. Let the rest of us proceed with our lives.

Side note: why is our doctor-governor such a failure when it comes to testing? The backwoods of PA where I grew up is even doing antibody testing now, and yet our fearless leader is too busy letting his staff scare people into saying we’re going to be locked down for two years. What a failure.

Now, it’s off to take Clorox bath.

Coach,

We did flatten the curve....but that means we lengthen the curve as well. The total # of cases over time, as I understand it, remain the same.

Enjoy your bath! 04-cheers

I'd argue our curve looks nothing like that. In Chesapeake, we are under 200 cases for 6 weeks. Currently, there are 3 people in the hospital with COVID in Chesapeake. That's not a curve. That's a flat line.

Sounds like what we are doing is working.

I guess that depends on how you define working. I wouldn't call 25 million lost jobs "working".

Obviously going round and round but keeping people alive is my number 1 concern.

Still not clear that you are going to save more lives than you are going to kill.

Elective surgeries start back up on May 1 - and then the rest will follow. It’s time to open the country back up, but it will be different. Masks will be required in public. This is our new normal. It’s time for our country to show its grit. Life back on.

This is unquestionable not even up for debate. Even low end estimates are hundreds of thousands of lives.

The chime model was not even close to being correct. The surge never happened. Time to put the models aside and move forward with common sense.

At what cost? Trillions of dollars.

Yep. Too many people are still invested in those early models that were disastrously wrong. The models were closer on NY (they were still off by a ton on hospital needs there), but they did not even remotely reflect the reality in 95% of the country. That modeling will be viewed as one of the largest failures in the history of this country one day. Public policy students will study the massive failure that created one of the largest economic disasters in this nation's history based entirely on on terrible piece of modeling.

The pandemic may last 2 years, but the lockdowns sure as schit aren't.
